Could be Paulinho (see above) as Torino said to be interested.

From what I've seen of him he'd be a very underwhelming signing.

Not a rumour as such, more of a wish list/putting a name out there but I'm just thinking of the type of player I'd like us to sign up front and the type of player who would come/fit in.

Whilst signing someone called Pel(l)e will obviously be very popular, I'm not convinced he's the right man to take things forward and worry about the fee and length of time it might take him to settle in.

Two belgians stand out for me as ticking most of the right boxes

Benteke - if we could lure him away from Villa, holds the ball up extremely well and links well at all levels (when fit he starts for Belgium ahead of Lukaku etc for this reason). His stock is lower now than at this time last season and would be achievable I think, allbeit for a signifcant outlay. He would start the season as undisputed number 1 striker (if fit) and I think would see Southampton as a step up and a chance of europe

Divock Origi - young, very talented and an exciting footballer. Although not a goalscorer, he only recently turned 19 and has looked extremly comfortable linking play and holding the ball up for Lille this season. He has earned a call up to the world cup squad and would fit our system beautifully. I think we'd be a good move for him as well

That would leave us with Benteke, Origi and Gallagher with Rodriguez able to play there as well. Good options for the system we play(ed) I think and the potential to be a step up from last season (which is still what we shoudl aim for).

A little bit, yeah. But I'm okay with it. If it's a player we'd like but are on the fence about then better to let him go than sign him and find out he doesn't fit in. I'm sure there's more than one player we may miss out on due to waiting, but then there are all sorts of players that are close calls but we pass on all the time for all sorts of reasons, it's just this is one someone told us about.

It's a shame that Pochettino leaving has left us a bit behind the eight ball, but no sense making it worse by being too hasty with other decisions.

Why would we make any deals when we don't have a manager?

The only reason to sign someone in the absence of a manager is if it was an offer we couldn't refuse....like Messi asking if he could be a poor-man's Lallana.

Maybe we have a manager elect just waiting for the right time to announce (next Friday) who has been included in potential transfer target debates with the rest of the committee so the club knows who to go after

You've been banging that drum for a while now Beefy! I don't watch much German footy - what are his strengths? According to Wiki he has been at a fair few teams when he was a youth player, more than your usual footballer, any reason for that?!

Tom Ince has turned down Inter Milan as he wants to join a PL club.

Hmm, that's interesting. I thought he was out there with his Dad the other day to have talks etc and sounded like he was up for it. Maybe they couldn't guarantee much playing time and he's getting to the age now where he needs to settle down and start playing regularly.

Tom Ince couldn't get into the Palace first team last year, how the hell did he think he could get into Inters team?
I think this excursion shows the problem, he thinks he is much better than he actually is and doesn't put a shift in to get to that level.

Exactly my thoughts on Ince. Nice to see we are linked with Nice left back Kolo. If Shaw goes it would be good to replace him with someone even better!!

    I said he's overhyped.

It's like Lallana a few years about, a big player that stood out in a mediocre team at the time...

Obviously we progressed and Lallana did too.
