Ashley Williams anyone? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...-radar-Wales-defender-looks-Swansea-exit.html
I know it's The Fail so probably bollocks. But he'd be perfect, hope we're in for him. Sunderland are the latest club to show an interest in Swansea captain Ashley Williams. The Wales international is stalling on a new contract and looks set to leave the Liberty Stadium this summer. And Gus Poyet is the latest manager to be alerted to his availability this summer and are ready to launch a £4million offer for the central defender. Williams, 29, has a year left on his deal at Swansea, and manager Garry Monk has not given up hope of signing him to a new deal. But if an agreement can't be reached the Swans will look to sell their skipper to avoid losing him for nothing next summer. I've heard a few Banega things, like we've agreed a fee but Benfica & Spurs want him too. Tough competition.
It would free Sig if he went to Spurs wouldn't it? From what I've read I'd rather have Banega though.
They haven't signed a single player in a 18 months but they think they're going to tie up 4 signings imminently. I'd be staggered if they've brought 4 in this month. Colback is a cert. http://www.nufcblog.com/2014/06/05/newcastle-close-to-completing-four-deals/
The club have been linked with a move for a couple of new names this evening, Ashley Williams of Swansea and Lazio's Luis Pedro Cavanda. Swansea manager Garry Monk confirmed yesterday that the Welsh club are in talks with Williams over a new contract, with both parties hoping a deal can be struck; We're in negotiations with his representatives and trying to put a deal across so that Ash will be here for the future of the club. I know Ash wants that, I want that, the club wants that and that's what we're working towards as we speak. That hasn't stopped speculation that the 29-year-old may be on the move however, with Williams reported to have had a medical at Queens Park Rangers and now Gus Poyet has been linked with a move for the player. Earlier in the day Sky Bet reported that the odds of Williams signing for Sunderland had been slashed from 25/1 to 6/4 favourites and shortly thereafter the Daily Mail published an article claiming that Poyet was planning a £4m move for the Welsh international. With Williams in contract negotiations with his current club, where he only has one year remaining, it's not hard to imagine that we are being used as leverage in order for him to get a better contract with Swansea. The player would undoubtedly be a good fit for Sunderland but it's certainly one to take with a pinch of salt. Meanwhile, Sunderland have also been linked once again with Lazio's Belgian right back Cavanda. Cavanda was heavily linked with Sunderland last year, where he was reportedly close to signing before doing a u-turn and signing a new contract with Lazio. According to his agent, Ulisse Savini, Cavanda will be leaving Lazio during this transfer, with Sunderland mentioned as a possible destination; Cavanda is leaving, he will not go to Udinese but somewhere else. The possibility of remaining at Lazio is very small. Sunderland? May be a hypothesis, we are working on it. There are also other English clubs and German teams, going abroad is the first choice. His value is around €5-6 million. Right now it is important to find a club that is willing to invest in this player to make him play regularly. Since we were last linked with Cavanda we have changed our entire coaching and transfer set-ups, so it's difficult to believe we have retained our interest and we have also signed Billy Jones who will presumably be our first-chocie right back. Despite those factors, Cavanda would provide pace, power and attacking intent from the full back position, something that is vital to how Sunderland play under Poyet and is still only 23, but with the player costing around £4m, it's likely to be too expensive a deal considering Jones' arrival and our needs elsewhere in the squad.
I ****ing love Cavanda, by the way, and mentioned him a while back. A big, powerful RB who likes to run, he would be a ****ing excellent signing. Hope there's summat in that one.
Not impossible like, they have a lot of geriatric CB's, would he wanna go though? Wouldn't be a swap either, there'd be a hefty fee fpr Cavanda I'd imagine.
I think Diakite will be looking for anyway out, the lads heading into his prime, surly he wants games. Why did he leave in the first place? Was he offered a new contract do you know? That's why I thought Diakite, he could chip a millions or so off Cavanda price and shift a wage.
Think quite simply we offered him more money. Standard. He's a decent CB Diakite, I really thought he'd do well.
Think it may be a case of mentality rather than ability. It's not the best league in the world but it's certainly one off the hardest. I think a lot overseas players underestimate this league, get a shock and think funk that. The fact he wants to go back to Italy, back to the familiar says a lot.

Turks still linking us with Moussa Sow. They seem to think we'll match his 17m Euro release clause. Can't see it myself. Fenerbahce have revealed that Sunderland target Moussa Sow has a €17 million release clause. The Yellow Canaries would be willing to hold talks with Sunderland match his release clause. Sunderland have been keeping tabs on Sow and the Senegalese international has revealed in the past that he would like to play in the Premier League one day. "There is a lot of talk. I'm happy at Fenerbahce and don't think about leaving," Sow said. "However, everyone knows I want to play in the Premier League one day." The former Ligue 1 champion and top scorer joined Fenerbahçe from Lille for €10 million in January 2012 and still has two-years on his contract. Sow has scored scored 43 goals and has 21 assists in all competitions since joining the Yellow Canaries. The 28-year-old has lifted the Turkish Cup, reached the semi-finals of the Europa League and played an important role in Fenerbahce winning the Super Lig title this season. http://www.turkish-football.com/news_read.php?id=5981
As Gus Poyet looks to do a lot of business this summer on the back of the miracle that kept them in the Premier League last season, Lescott would be a brilliant addition for Sunderland. Poyet has already strengthened his back four with the signing of Billy Jones on a free transfer and Lescott - who would also cost nothing - would also add further solidity to the Black Cats' defence. Sunderland conceded the fifth most goals in the Premier League last season and while they currently don't lack experience with players such as John O'Shea and Wes Brown at centre-back, Lescott would be an upgrade on what they currently have. Poyet will also be looking forward to having a full season to get his possession-based thinking off and running at the Stadium of Light, and Lescott has good composure when on the ball. In 2013/14, via Squawka, Lescott (89%) had a better passing accuracy than all of Valentin Roberge (86%), O'Shea (84%), Modibo Diakité (82%) and Brown (80%).
