May be in the mould of a Khedira or a Rijkaard if handled well. I hope BR has him focus on honing his DM side and doesn't spread him too thin. He has the traits to become a good DM for us if we channel him well.

I think this is right, he should be a direct replacement for Lucas, who i think will be on his way next/this summer.

I like the looks of this guy, looks like he will add to our attack, be good in front of the back four and add strength. Whats not to like. Very happy with our business so far and the fact we are doing it early. Good skills to BR and the team

Seems versatile and can do a job at LB as well if needed for a couple of games.

He'll provide some more energy and dynamism to our midfield - Allen and Hendo are ahead of him but it does mean we have the option to bring on Can in case Allen is injured rather than look to Lucas.

I think Lucas doesn't fit in with Rodgers' philosophy and tactics on the evidence of last season - too slow, not mobile or industrious enough - so consequently see him going this window. For me Lucas has been a bit of a disappointment in his career with us, couple of good seasons, but never a stand out player. This deal is prep for when we've found find a buyer.

Liverpool have signed Bayer Leverkusen's 20-year-old Emre Can, a player rated very highly among football's biggest names...

“Emre Can is one of the biggest talents in German football”

Those are the words of Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, the former Germany international and current Bayern Munich chairman. Rummenigge was full of praise when Can left Bayern for Bayer Leverkusen in 2013, insisting he did not want to stand in the way of the player's progress.

“Emre Can is a very versatile player with great potential which he is certainly going to deliver more on with us”

Bayer sporting director and 1990 World Cup winner Rudi Voller was also fulsome with his praise (above) when the club signed Can.

Sami Hyypia, who won the 2005 Champions League with Liverpool and then managed Bayer Leverkusen, said Can has shown the technique to play in a number of positions, calling him incredible, as well as saying…

“He is strong in one-on-one situations, he is still young. He still needs some patience to always make the right decision. He has yet to learn. And he's smart enough to learn that. He is well on its way to becoming a very good player”

Tottenham coach Steffen Freund was in charge of Germany's U17 World Cup side in 2011 and could not speak highly enough of his captain, who guided the team to third place.

“Emre is the most complete U-17 player I've seen in my entire career – and I've seen a few players in my time. He has the ability to make it right to the very top”

HAHA,
He was one of the biggest talents in German football, yet they didnt want him.
Didnt want to stand in the way of his progress? Then you should have played him <doh>, and selling him to Leverkeusen was progress in his career? HAHA

Wrong Bod, they did want to keep him but we activated a foreign club release clause

And of course it was, lots more playing time there than at Bayern which is pretty obvious

Well they do have Thiago, Kroos, Schweinsteiger, Martinez, Alaba & Lahm who can all play in central midfield. Better to play regularly than sit on the bench making the odd 10 minute appearances at the end of games that have already been won.

bod can giggle all he wants, the quotes are not from us... and anyone on here should take all such quotes with a pinch of salt and view him for waht he is when he plays... no point taking bods view he must be useless nor that he's their greatest player ever either.

Not every club buys as many young players as they can to loan them all out like the chavs. Bayern did the same with many players as they did with Emre Can. Stumbling block in the deal is that Bayern didn't want Leverkusen to sell him (thus losing their buy back clause).

its also a fact that these guys all seem to be quite.... mercenary when it comes to career. kroos is screwing bayern all he can, lewandowski screwed dortmund. shaqiri seems to have held court on a move for two years.

can prob had a contract that leverkusen activated and now 12 months later another to get here...

ffs cheslea should know all about it from ballack.

Chelsea fans wouldn't know about player progression. They just buy the current hot property rather than make the next. I seem to recall Sturridge leaving them to progress his career (get more game time) at a 'smaller' club. Well, that didn't turn out too bad and now we're right behind Chavski and improving still.

Still, the comments are taken with a large pinch of salt, but hilarious that it's a Chav fan trying to have the first dig...

We're still behind them taking everything into account; squad (on paper) is weaker, we've yet to show how we compete in Europe whereas they've shown plenty. Few more additions and I'll be more confident of finishing above them again. As it currently is, I could see us sliding back down a few spots.
