I like to think we'll be more solid with the first choice back four and someone more energetic than Lampard in midfield (ie anyone). Certainly need to work on defending in training though.
Really? Lampard and Wilshere won't take part as a front four player. It gives Lallana, Sterling and Barkley a fight to get the 2 positions either side of Rooney. I think Rooney will start in the number 10 role against Italy with Sturridge up top. Wilshere, Lampard and Henderson are fighting for the position beside Gerrard. I think it will be Henderson, Wilshere would have if he could stay fit for more than 10 minutes. The defence will be the one that started against Peru with maybe Jones fighting it out with Johnson unless Flannagan or Stones get added into the squad to replace Ox.
Hard to judge by this game as Roy was trying to give players a very important run out. Shaw did well....remember he is a baby. This World Cup is a great chance for him...can make him, but can't break him. Loved Rickie's goal, because it was also a good one...let Rooney have the tap in
I agree with you in principle that our best team has Rooney in behind Sturridge, but I think playing this side against in Italy would not be the best plan. Personally, I would leave out Rooney, play an extra midfielder rather than a no. 10, and then play Milner one side and Lallana the other as they are both capable of fulfilling some defensive duties. In practice though, I think Roy will want to play both Rooney and Sturridge so one of them will end up out wide. But to play four attacking players will be suicide as we will be short of numbers in the middle and chasing possession. Let's face, we'd both settle for a 0-0 and then on to the next game.
Was it not suggested is was smoehting to do with the amount of synthetic material knitted into the grass at their training ground and stadium
http://www.thesportbible.com/articl...land-supporter-after-the-game-against-ecuador Piece about Shaw giving shirt to Saints fan...sorry if posted before.
Ah yes, that rings a bell. On another topic, have I mentioned that if anyone pops into the reception of New Forest Fencing [out by B&Q Nursling, over the railway bridge, turn left and carry for about half a mile. On right] that they can see a framed and signed Rickie Lambert [20] White England shirt..? It's not the debut shirt, as far as I know, but one from 2013.
ENGLAND: Hart; Johnson, Jagielka, Cahill, Baines; Henderson, Gerrard; Lallana, Rooney, Welbeck; Sturridge. England v Honduras - KO at 21:45 on ITV1.
Looking forward to the World Cup, if only for the fact that i can watch games on the BBC, and not be subjected to the mind-numbing idiocy of Andy Townsend.
