Is it a biological necessity to insert a blood curdling scream or grunt into the physical act of sneezing? Isn't it just a passing of air?

What's that, no it isn't necessary?

    I thought not.

Oh, it's just an attention seeking device, voluntarily utilised by the sneezer, with the aim of being acknowledged for doing a basic human act?

    Just what I thought.

Why then, does the vast majority of the population choose to be a **** about it, raising the decibels to an excessive level, just so we knew they sneezed? No answer?

Honestly, some people make the kind of noises I'd expect to hear if they were being subjected to a frenzied knife attack. If it happened, I'd let them die, thinking they just wanted us all to know they had hayfever.

It needs to stop. What can we do about it?

    Thanks.

    Party.

PS, for someone with a larger than average nose, I sneeze quietly. Follow my lead.

    What about their opposites?

Excessively timid folk who try to bottle up the sneeze to an absurd degree because they feel somehow 'exposed' for drawing attention to themselves ?

    I do.

    I know it's acute pain.

Which just makes me more mystified at these noise polluters.

I sneeze loudly. I don't/won't apologise for it. I can't help it. It's a proper atchoo. I have hayfever so it can be muliple times I do it. Mint also make me sneeze. Same again, loudly. I don't grunt or scream. I also hiccup loudly. Again I can't help it. Woman next to me at work sneezes like she is coughing. So I never know if she is coughing or sneezing so I can't say the obligatory bless you. If you're gonna sneeze make it a good un I say. Do you hate me Party? :emoticon-0101-sadsm

Sneezing you would like to think is involuntary. I work in a shop and i take great exception to people wiping their nose with their hand and then using said hand to pass me money. Peasants.

Do you have a girly, effeminate sneeze Party, and you're feeling threatened by a more manly sneeze coming from another bloke, or worse, from a woman?

I like to think I have a 'neutral sneeze'. It does it's job without fuss and fanfare.

I've actually found, in my studies, that it's the women who produce the loudest, most ear-piercing, simply unnecessary and startling noises of all.

Jesus Christ! Is there a fight going on?? Has someone vomited?? Oh, it's just a sneeze.

    It needs to stop.

more annoying than a loud sneeze is the fairy a-tish-ooo
a sneeze is a great excuse to make a right row at work , the quietly spoken a-tish-ooo NEEDS a knife frenzy cursed upon them
if only just to make sure the are Alive !!!- Afterall at school we all learned that a sneeze was the closest thing to an orgasm & well at school a sneeze was quite achievable in class :D :D :D

I deliberately exaggerate my sneezes & usually add some obscenity on the end. A sort of very loud "Ahhhhhh Chewwwwwwwwww ya ****" In mitigation, I know it annoys the **** out of the Mrs especially if we're in the company of others.

I ruptured a disc in my lower back due to suppressing a sneeze.

    Couldn't walk for a week.

Took months for a full recovery.

    The moral?

    Sneeze loud, be proud.

I also read somewhere that if you block your nostrils when you sneeze the recoil can puncture your brain.

i remember when i bust a rib , when i sneezed , the only way to reduce the pain was to have my mouth wide open and make an aaahhh noise all the way through it
seemed bizarre but it stopped the sneeze bringing tears to me eyes .

Sneezing can cause a carotid dissection.
