Liverpool FC have today agreed a deal in principle with Bayer Leverkusen to sign 20-year-old Emre Can, subject to documentation being completed. A versatile German youth international, the Frankfurt-born midfielder made 29 Bundesliga appearances last season, scoring three goals. His contributions helped Leverkusen finish fourth and secure Champions League qualification, having joined the club from Bayern Munich last summer. Can clocked up seven appearances in Europe's elite competition during 2013-14, and has previously played at the European U21 Championship and the U17 World Cup. The news follows the announcement on Monday of England striker Rickie Lambert as the Reds' first signing of the summer transfer window. http://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/latest-news/164418-reds-agree-emre-can-deal-in-principle ---------------- Lets hope the fact he looks like Sahin isnt a bad omen (I think Can has Turkish blood in him as well doesnt he) Good signing? I dont know a lot about him
Just showed 2 clips on sky..one a shot going wide saved by keeper and the other a shot blasted over the bar. Not best omens. Last player I heard the phrase ' signed in principle' associated with was Aspas..another bad omen
WHO IS EMRE CAN? Can is one of the most versatile young players in the Bundesliga. Having spent most of his career so far in the youth set up at Bayern Munich, the Frankfurt-born player was one pipped for the top from an extremely early age. After only four first-team appearances at Bayern, though, Can's star faded during the 2012/13 season, and so in the summer of 2013 he chose to make the switch to Leverkusen. It has done him a world of good, and he has developed into an invaluable midfield force for his new club. He has also represented Germany at every level from Under 15 to Under 21. Can prefers to play in central midfield - 'either attacking or defending, I don't care either way' - but has been employed as a centre-back and a left-back on various occasions. As captain of the German Under 17s team, he was the calming influence at the heart of play. His physical strength is of particular use going forward, though he is rarely overly reckless. It has been remarked on several occasions that Can seems to have a maturity beyond his years, and his technical ability as a playmaker, either from the back or the front, is now beyond doubt. The most commonly drawn comparison is Bastian Schweinsteiger. And not only because the young Can puts as much effort into his hairstye as Schweinsteiger once did. His ability to switch effortlessly from defence to midfield, his dangerous shot, and his control over the pace of the game all do remind one of the established Bayern star. For those watching his marauding runs through the centre at Leverkusen this season though, Toni Kroos has always also sprung to mind. It is little surprise that these two Bayern stars have had an influence on Can's play. He has trained with them, or at least in close proximity to them, for several of his formative years. KIT HOLDEN
Happy with that if the £10m is to be believed. Very good bit of business I think. Looking forward to seeing what he can do with us, as I've been impressed with his performances in the Bundesliga last season. Would much rather spend £10m on him than £30 on Fabregas.
Where Gerrard played this year. CM. I think/hope Gerrard is only used sparingly next year. He doesn't have the legs to cover the defence well enough.
I think he needs to be limited to one game per week and if he chooses to play for england thsoe weekends he can bench warm and all. so play CL, bench on weekend

well... 20/21, it seems very much like a coutinho deal except for the fact that prob his club doesn't want to lose him. we'll see won't we.
I dont buy all this 'treat him differently because he's 34' stuff. For starters Rodgers idea is to adjust training instead of missing matches so that the players are available when it matters (in matches). Also, apart from one year crossing over the Hodgson and Dalglish era's Gerrard has never really been to injury prone. That was just one unlucky time for him.
