So you don't think Marshall had a good season? Also, are you going to preface every comment you make from now on with IMO or are you just arguing now for the sake of it? Its so obvious that it was an opinion I didn't think I had to spell it out for anyone.
Yeah but an average Premier League goalie is quite good isn't he? And you can't compare goalkeepers with other positions. I would say that probably every goalkeeper in the Premier League is good, bar one or two. Back to that list, Keiran Westwood is a good keeper and he's on a free this summer. Would be a good signing. I also like David Stockdale at Fulham, good up and coming keeper. And I can't see Stekelenburg drop to the Championship, another worth a punt but might be expensive in wages.
I'd like to see steklenburg too, pair him with one of butland, smithies or mccarthy and if be delighted. Wed end up with green and forde though.
Not sure if my two cents are worth anything but we need continuity as far as possible - surely we learnt that last time. That is difficult, especially when there are certain areas in which we absolutely have to improve (cb, cf). As such, I wouldn't consider rocking the boat in positions where players are adequate, even if they're not 'top 10', like Green. I'd personally bring in Kuczjak (sp) on a free as back up.
I'm not sure I need to comment on that gem. If you actually read my posts (of which there are only 500 or so... I like to listen as well as talk) you will note that I, unlike yourself, am very aware of other posters points of view and try to take care not to appear as if I am the fount of all knowledge. You are clearly passionate about your opinions, but you tend present them as fact. I am sure you are a decent chap, but I am not the first to find your insistence on being right deeply tiresome.
Green is a top class keeper despite what Flyer says and I wouldn't worry too much if Murphy had to deputise at some stage next season. Our focus for new recruits should be in other areas, strikers and centre backs spring to mind
Now there's the positivity I was looking for Seriously though. I would give Green a two year deal and play him as first choice goalie this season, to keep the core of our promotion team together. I would also sign a top talent, preferably Butland, on a long term deal. Fade Green out from next season where hopefully the understudy is ready to step up. That way we would have the security with an experienced keeper for now that a young lad could learn from, and next season we would have an experienced backup to tutor our keeper for the future.
I agree with those already of the opinion that Green is good enough to remain our GK for the coming season. If he's outside the Top 10 and "average" then I reckon the margins are small, i.e. I don't believe a number of the 'keepers one might put immediately ahead of him in the list are markedly 'head and shoulders' above him. Anyway, why are we talking about goalies when we need about 6-8 new outfielders in the squad?
Of course, all that depends on us shifting cesar. We may well end up not being able to offer green a deal because we have Cesar on the books.
WTF! All this debate about a goalkeeper position when we need to use our money in other positions. We should only be focused on where we can improve our weaker positions - and Green isn't one of them. He has earned us more points than he cost us. There are other positions that cost us points, that's where we need to focus... Scoring goals, goals, goals!!!!! Come on Flyer focus on the right areas... We're not supposed to be wasting our money this off season.
FFS lads, this is a man who declared during the 2012 Euros that "Goalkeepers should have bouncier stances". You get that? "Goalkeepers should have bouncier stances". The man has a psychological condition related to compulsiveness so stop arguing with him because its just not fair on the lad.
Up-to-date with Lafferty and Sidwell. Waiting for an unpronounceable, unheard of player to liven the board up...
