Do you know supers how much of Parks scouting network would join him. My general understanding is that scouts tend to be somewhat freelance. Would he still have access to the information he does know or would he have to go about shaping our current network how he wants and bringing in people he trusts? Also do you know much about Mark Wotte. His current told seems more like that of Ricky Martin's but I'm aware he has been technical director at Feyenord but then that title seems like it's different at each club.
Done well last season with a good amount if goals, Only time i really watched him was at Portman Road and to be honest he didn't do a lot and was miles away from being their most impressive player. If you go for anybody from bournemouth go for Matt Ritchie, and i would use Surman this season as well.
not seen much of grabban so wouldn't like to say if he's good enough. decent record last year though. regards park, most clubs have networks in place where they use tried and trusted scouts - he would bring contacts rather than people, physically, most likely. wotte is highly regarded in football circles as a visionary, although how he ended up working at the scottish fa i don't know! his role would only be supplementary to the football side of things from what i can gather, preparation, conditioning, sorting fitness regimes etc. i'm beginning to get a bit lost - there are so many new roles at the club!
Michael Bailey ‏@michaeljbailey Well if Jordan Rhodes was to cost £10m & Lewis Grabban £3m, the decision isn't too tricky for Norwich. Sky Sports saying #ncfc in the hunt.
yep. i'm not keen on rhodes myself from what i've seen. its not that i don't rate him, he's a terrific finisher, but i think he'd cause us more headaches than we've already got and at a huge fee, not to mention the fact he's on £40k a week + at blackburn
Fair enough so no doubt a combination of both then. Looks like McNally is really using his contacts north of the boarder
Rhodes is undoubtedly good for some goals at this level but the amount the deal would cost makes it seem like a bad call. Got QPR written all over him.
i think its fair to say they are making sure neil adams ONLY has to focus on the players and match preparation. playing to his strengths, hopefully! problem is, are there too many cooks (sorry)?
Rhodes has averaged 28 goals a season over the last five seasons. I'm not saying he's worth £10million but him and Hooper would get us up, I'm sure of it. He's an excellent player.
It's difficult. If we signed Rhodes, we'd have three strikers (including for now RvW and Hooper) that would expect to be automatic starters in the Championship, and then another in Becchio that definitely wouldn't be happy to still be bench-warming. If we signed Rhodes, we'd lose (probably) both Hooper and RvW I reckon. Possibly not both this summer, but come the end of January, I think both would be gone.
been a long time fan of Grabban and one that could step up for me... i think the writing is very much on the wall with regards to hoops...hence why we are now on the hunt for strikers... you couldn't blame him really, he didn't sign up for all this...even at the end of the season RVW was getting games over hoops...
If you listen to carrabuh the one cook we have is far too many. Personally I think the system sounds excellent so long as each member of the team trust each of the others then things divide quite nicely theres: The Football coaching team - Adams in charge with Robson and Holt, both of whom have more managerial experience but have also both worked with Adams before. Then Joe royal will be offering advise to Adams on all manner of things and it seems will be using some of his contacts too, i wonder is he might currently be acting recruitment director in everything but name until that role is sorted. I think he will also provide Adams with a greater depth of knowledge of what talent is out there and gives him a second opinion on players as signing will ultimately be agreed on by him. Its clear from the interview Adams gave that he trusts and respects Royal and i think this role was something he pushed for. The technical director seems to be taking all the general administration away from the manager which seems like a good thing and should hopefully mean that behind the scenes we can afford to improve all manner of infrastructure without it taking up too much of the managers time. This could have genuinely positive effects on our set up as it become someones full time concern. The Recruitment director role seems blurred is it more than just a head scout? are they expected to get more involved in the actual signing of the players and not just the identifying them, this would be moving responsibility away from McNally although we all know everything goes through him and he hold the purse strings, but I'm imagining this role involving dealing with other clubs and agents more than a scout would. McNally will have a great deal of his current footballing responsibilities delegated to others not meaning he can focus his efforts where he is best, the business side, McNally will I would guess still be in charge of the Money which ultimately make him king, and then all the marketing and customer facing side of the business along with all the no football related aspects of the business, hopefully this will free up time to sort out our terrible website and even worse mobile app (yes we really have one) and most importantly without so much day to day to deal with he can start looking long term. Recently I've gotten the impression that McNally does too much and too many thing go through him If he can bring in people he trusts to deliver then he can start working more macro and less micro. All this should be good for the club but as i said before it required a level of trust, the technical director needs to acknowledge that first team tactics are the purview of Adams and his team and McNally needs to leave the individual directors to work with a level of autonomy. If this does't work it will be due to the inability of one of the directors to let the others work in peace.
Gary Hooper's average is around that and we managed to limit him to 8, in fact RvW playing at the highest level of all of them averaged 20 odd for the last 3 season but we managers to limit him to just 1. You can't play the sabre-metrics type game in football as players are two depended on their team mates, otherwise we'd have gotten 45 odd goals last year from Hooper and RvW alone. Also Rhodes in an excellent goalscorer, how good a player he is is debatable.
still lots of questions to answer but at least, from my point of view anyway, we are beginning to see that there was a master plan when we appointed adams. it certainly isn't the cheap option, as has been labelled by some - these guys are going to get paid well. its still a huge gamble to appoint a novice though. lets see who else comes through the door. i'd be very impressed if john park has been lined up.
It does seem, to me at least, as though the board are not the idiots they were labelled after Adams's appointment. When view as thought Adams was the whole thing it seems mad, when its considered that he's actually just part of a larger jigsaw it seems more sensible almost, dare i say it, a good idea. When McNally talked about "best in class" people coming in it was ascribed to Adams but i think he mean the rest of the team and Park in particular would be just that.
That's not really my conclusion I agree there is considerable faith (they handed him the reins for the last five matches of the season after all). But let's actually think about: (1) vast amounts of responsibility that Hughton had have been taken from Adams and given to new individuals (2) the new individuals all have clearly defined responsibilities, they are generally relatively experienced and are hardly going to be ordered around (3) Adams' role is now clearly defined and limited (4) we understand, though the details are sketchy, that at least one of Adams' suggestions (Steve Foley) was denied by the board To me, that indicates that while they are giving Adams a big responsibility in terms of being the face of the first team, they are actually removing quite a few key decisions from his control - specifically surrounding the future of the club. They are making it quite clear that he has some sort of "advisory council" of people more experienced than he. They are also making it a hell of a lot easier to get rid of Adams should it go pear-shaped (I often wondered whether this was part of the problem with Hughton - the club was heavily reliant on him). "Too many cooks" for me, means where there are too many people doing the same job. Here, the board seem to have taken the approach of lots of people doing very specific jobs. I think the more likely problem is whether they can work together as a coherent team with a consistent ethos, rather than them treading on each other's toes.
