Did my eyes deceive me ?............. Did I read it right on the BBC Sport site ?............well known Ice Hockey coach Freddy Krueger has joined Southampton FC on the commercial side He is expected to be in the stands at St Mary's for Southampton's match with Liverpool on Saturday. Don't worry Saints fans, you will easily be able to recognise him in the stand - he will be the one with the long fingernails.....
That's a sore point in team GB at the moment. The Olympic ideals uphold friendship, excellence and respect. Unfortunately for team GB, Liz Nicholl the head of UK Sport, has blown two of those out of the water, along with the Synchro team. She has stopped all funding, for some sports Synchro, Basketball amazingly, because, in her own words "UK Sport operate a strict 'no compromise' approach in which it will only fund sports deemed likely to win a medal in 2016 or at the 2020 Games in Tokyo, and Great Britain's men's and women's basketball teams failed to meet its targets by missing out on qualification for the 2014 World Championships". Not much friendliness and respect there then.
Bet UK Sport could fund 20 more sports teams with the salary she's on. If money is such an issue, why don't you lead by example (same thing could be said for Councillors too) Realistically the only things we're likely to get medals in are athletics (middle-distance), swimming, cycling, tennis, rowing, possibly sailing, boxing and hockey. So why not just cut everything else? Archery, shooting, table tennis, badminton, gymnastics, fencing, water polo, handball, volleyball, beach volleyball, any of the martial arts! Heck, why not just send a team of about 20 athletes. That'll reduce the costs even more!
The full time whistle goes and thanks to a brilliant defensive performance, Pompey Ladies secure all three points with a 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur Ladies ! Well done Pompey Ladies
It's the North Laaaahndon derby today. A win for the gooners will put them a week closer to Saint Totteringham's day. More importantly, a point for Spurs would make them mathematically safe from relegation
Just been watching the FA Youth Cup match between Fulham and Reading, on ITV4. Interesting thing, that Reading's captain is Aaron Kuhl - son of our former midfielder Martin Kuhl from some years back. Also Fulham Youth's manager is Steve Wigley our former winger.
Congratulations to Hampshire side Sholing Sports for winning the 2014 FA Carlsberg Vase at Wembley Stadium today, beating northern side West Auckland 1-0. Great news for Hampshire
That brilliant non-goalscoring ex-Pompey striker - John Akinde - has signed a two year contract with Conference side Barnet. What were they thinking.......
Lazio midfielder Joseph Minala did not lie about his age, an official Italian Football Association (FIGC) investigation has ruled. An African football website stated in February that Cameroon-born Minala was 42 but claiming to be 17. The accusation led to an official investigation which saw him questioned by the league's federal prosecutor. "The investigation did not show any need for disciplinary action," an FIGC statement read. Minala joined the Rome club last summer and played for them in the Viareggio Cup youth tournament. Above taken from the BBC Sports Football site. Must admit, he looks 42, but there again, anyone remember when Kanu first signed for us in 2006, at the ripe old age of 30 (going on 62 ?!). Still the King though
According to Talksport, former Swansea boss Michael Laudrup has ruled himself out of the Southampton and West Brom jobs by revealing he will only consider an offer from a "big club". Who on earth does he think he is ?!
There seems to be a lot of problems re a poster "Not Stern John" on the Saints board - this couldn't be you know who having a bit of fun could it ?
Whereabouts on the board was this poster having fun? He (or even she maybe?) isn't on the list of members.
