Rio Ferdinand would be an ideal signing for QPR, admits boss Harry Redknapp

    By Liam Prenderville

The 35-year-old is a free agent this summer after his release by Manchester United and Redknapp believes he is just the type of player he needs at Loftus Road

Welcome addition: Redknapp would love to take Ferdinand to Loftus Road

Harry Redknapp admits Rio Ferdinand's credentials would make him a perfect signing for QPR this summer.

The defender is available on a free transfer after his release by Manchester United and has been linked with a switch to the newly-promoted R's.

And Redknapp - who managed Ferdinand during his time at West Ham - believes he is exactly the sort of player he wants to bring in.

He told talkSPORT: "Rio is a very good player. I signed him at 14 and he's a fantastic player and a great pro.

"He's probably been the best centre-back in Europe in the last few years. What a career he has had at Manchester United."

Ferdinand is not the only former Hammer to be touted for a switch to Loftus Road , with Frank Lampard and Joe Cole both linked.

And after the club's last season in the top-flight ended in relegation, Redknapp insists he will look to bring in experienced players this time around - as long as they are the right fit and up to the job.

The 67-year-old added: "We need a bit of experience, players we can rely on and who are prepared to have a go.

"Last time there were lots of players brought in who were not really up to the job.

"We have to make sure we've got the right sort of lads this time around."

Monsterous wage, slow, old, lost it, injury prone, no motivation and will retire after this season.

He's the total opposite of what you want.

I'm no expert but I'm sure we don't need a 35 year old defender

Listen to the actual interview lads. He never says what the article headline suggests. Brazil asked him what he thought of Ferdinand and he complimented him as a very good player. What else was he supposed to do?

    More sensationalism

Hold up. Here are the two quotes:

Where does it say he wants to sign him? He didn't say that on Talksport, did he?

Harry thinks that Rio is the "right sort". Yes, he probably is. He is the sort we want - not necessarily the man himself!

I am sure Harry said quite a few other things as well, but to make the story the journo from the Mirror only uses these two quotes and weaves a story around them.

I would be happy for Rio to become a pundit, if I could understand him

That's the first true thing you've ever said on this board.

He only wants him because he doesn't want to do any coaching.

Another case of the Harry haters reading things the way they want to instead of what is actually written.

Takes too long to read and think about. It is easier to go with the sensational headline written by the journo:emoticon-0172-mooni (which bears little relation to the truth).

Harry: "Well, it was squeaky bum time there for a while".
Headline: "Harry suffering from severe bowel problems".

Andy King's Crown Jewels would be an awful bollocks to have hanging around your board, admits boss Nigel Pearson.

It's probably because he 's too fat to see what dangles between his legs and can't find it to play with it anymore.

    "

"Harryhaters"? What's that then? I don't hate Arry at all, I find him funny and quite likeable. But I have wanted him replaced as our Manager for a few months now, because since the first month or so after he came, we have hardly played a decent game of football. We need someone to get us playing good football again - we have to do that in the PL to have much chance of survival

And I don't believe much of what is in the papers!.

Ah yes, "The QPR way" :emoticon-0119-puke:

BTW, on the Hangeland thread the guy in the link said "Harry already poured cold water on reunion with Rio Ferdinand."

Funny how two journalists can take two totally opposite meanings from the same interview

Just stringing a few passes together in forward movement will be a big improvement on most of our play the last 17 months or so!
