Inver Not wishing to get embroiled in a religious pissing contest with you, but can I just make one small point about your blog. It is not religion that causes the human misery which you mention, but human manipulation of, and usually for personal gain or a lust for power. Religion, technology, social services, politics, finance, etc etc - these are all areas where MANKIND has contaminated and manipulated for their own ends. A case in point is the new virus from Russia which is set to hit us in the next 2 weeks. Computers didn't create it, a human did. So what do we do ? Ban all computers ? All leave technology behind as we leave the cities and go live off the land ? Sounds a bit like Cambodia to me. Religion has a profound depth of meaning to the majority of this planet's population. Who are you to say that God is dead or never existed ?
On a serious note, I would recommend the compulsory serving of asparagus at breakfast, and the awarding of the World Cup 2014 to England on the basis that we're brilliant (erhem...) OK, a little bit nonsensical, but certainly the asparagus argument carries weight
Never quite understand religion. The way I see it religious people are following something written down roughly 2000 years ago. If I went to one of their houses, will I be watching betamax video recorders and playing on a ZX Sprectrum computer whilst listening to the gramophone?
Well if you put it that way, then HE took his time getting his autobiography out. Surely its about time for another one. Beckhams only 40 and he's had loads
A serious question posed by Black Sabbath on their recent number 1 album 13. I think the jury's still out on that one.
I'd start by moving certain industries out of London to reduce the power they hold. Currently, everything goes through London; the media, commerce, finance, and government. We wonder why there's such a ridiculous level of corruption everywhere, but nearly everyone in power is around an hour away from each other. The BBC had to be dragged kicking and screaming away from London. The country would probably be far more stable if everything weren't located in one place.
As a slight comeback, in good faith, to brightred I don't want to come across as a religion hater but rather as a deep thinker who seriously questions it's worth in today's society. If religion was put solely to good and the advancement toward a better understanding and tolerance of others then I would applaud loudly. Regrettably it is not and until such time as the religious leaders of the world get together to ban their followers from promoting hatred and intolerance will I change my opinion, but regrettably that will never happen until the religious moderates on all sides say "enough is enough". End of sermon.
But is that the fault of the religions themselves, or the leaders who use those religions to promote their own questionable ideals. Truth is, we have enough evidence that humans are not to be trusted with positions of huge power, either in religion or in politics. If the leaders are incapable of directing their followers in a responsible and righteous manner, then they are merely resorting to type. That is not the fault of the religions themselves, codes of conduct that were created in order to help humanity. Maybe the 'beings' that created them had higher opinions of mankind than we deserved, or maybe they were just super-optimists As the saying goes, all men are equal, but some are more equal than others. In the same way that a pure concept like communism turns to fascism, religion is there to be used or shot at. Makes you wonder what kind of hell we live in sometimes...
Take us out the EU change the benefit system they'll receive a card instead of cash, which can only be used to buy essentials and budget 2nd hand goods, no iPhones BMWS Bring back the death penalty re establish ourselves as a military force Open more jails so that overcrowding is no longer an issue and that people get full terms for there crimes
I'm with you all the way brightred and it makes me wonder what kind of future nightmare the world is creating for itself. Loads of people talk about their individual valhalla, heaven or whatever but if they wake up to reality we have it all right here on earth but so many seem to want destroy it all - WHY?
Power and the abuse of it, or misuse if we are being kind runs through society at all levels Whether it's a bully of a boss, rigging votes and taking WC backhanders at FIFA or corrupt politicians. I'd jail them all. Seriously I would ensure that people doing time suffered. No TV and internet access. No joke of a sentence etc As the old saying goes, if you can't do the time don't do the crime
Radical but spot on angelic because we can no longer afford, or tolerate, the softly softly approach that does not work. Society and acceptance of poor choices and habits will only make the matter worse. My concern for the future is can changes be implemented without causing public uproar and civil unrest? When I spend my 4 winter months in the Canary Islands I constantly hear the rants about what has happened to the UK in the years since my departure and I ache for someone to come up with a workable plan to sort out the problems to stop the country of my birth sinking in to oblivion. Is it just me or are the social problems plaguing the U.K. merely a symptom of what has been happening worldwide?
But if the death penalty was reintroduced, you can kill most of the prisoners now and then that's solved the overcrowding. A good old fashioned killing spree on the peado's and rapist, and we can have game shows so the winner's get to pull the trigger.
Out of the eu Shut the borders, and stop the free for all from europe. Give us a referendum now. Give the nhs back to the people of the uk. Not good when nine people from poland enter a dentist and get free treatment, and us the people that pay our taxes have to pay. Crazy country we live in.
Now we're starting to talk some sense based on your comments RR and I wonder how all this mess was allowed to take root and then spread in such a noxious way. It seems like human rights and payouts only go to the newcomers and yet we still continue to accept one and all without asking the right questions. Put me in charge of the borders and here are the questions I would ask: 1. Do you have a job? 2. Do you have a reasonable command of the language? 3. Do you have enough money to support you and your family for 2 years? 4. Are you ware that you will not be eligible to receive any benefits until you have 5 full years contributions to your credit? 5. Do you have a criminal record free past? Answer NO to any of the above and you will be refused entry. I have now probably put the cat among the pigeons but my thoughts are based mainly on the kinds of questions that all lot of countries ask potential immigrants and are not based upon any prejudices. Any thoughts on what should be done to stop the rot? Please don't think I am against immigrants arriving on your shores and when you remember that I now live in country that was built on newcomers from all over the world - and it works quite well with a few glitches - I question where the policies went so wrong back home.
BASIC POINTS HAVE BEEN COVERED already, but my pennorth..over population, famines, no work for the masses so crime increases, starvation causes even more suffering, world resorts to cannibalism, sewerage farms cant cope, football stadiums become rememberance parks and each person allowed 10 mins of their life to visit 1 ..oceans are fished out so nothing to eat the micro organisms, who regenerate without control eventually they are overcome by sewage effulent, imbalance of co2 to o2 ( no trees left) means nothing to breathe so human race and living things die out...end result = all illnesses have been cured and none to be passed on! the first thing to do would be reduce the world population by 3 billion ................... Have you seen the programme 19 and counting............ by now probably 22 and counting, and their best friends are just 1 behind! that's 2 females having 40 kids! in a world that is over populated!
