QPR? Don't Make Me Laugh! Ashley Williams is having a medical at QPR. Well, at least that is what today's Sun would like you to believe after they reported that the Swans captain was closing in on a move to the newly promoted side just a week after their Wembley triumph. Read on: http://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/football/swanseacity/news/35179/? Have I missed something? I have no beef with the swans but boy do they sound bitter! Do I give a toss? No. Good luck to them I say!
Sorry if this has already been done on here but what do you all think of Ashley? Is this the kind of player we need or should be going for?
To be honest mate, I am slightly concerned at spending 4 million quid on a 30 year old center half. I know Redknapp has to get players in he knows will have the right attitude etc but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried that our first signing was in that age bracket and at that price. Hopefully Harry and the Board know what they're doing.
Cheers for the feedback Swords, it seems the swans supporters want to keep hold of him but as you say there must be younger players with his talent in the four million £ bracket.
I reckon he could be a good signing, on the right deal of course not stupid wages he could be a dunne/nelsen type player.
Oh well I guess it's still early days yet with regards to transfers. I hope we don't over do it this time with too many new faces but it looks like we may just have to. As many say I just hope lessons have been learnt this time around and we can manage to stay up without being in the drop zone for most the season. U RRRRRss!
If a forward like Lambert at 32 years is worth £4m-5m to Liverpool, then I'd say £4m for a 30-year old CB is well worth the price. You might reasonably expect 3-4 solid years out of him at least.
Williams is a lot more our current budget than our last foray into the 'quality' CB market (30yr old Chris Samba, £12.5m £100k p/w* wages) and he has current PL experience. In an ideal world we might be better served by someone a bit younger but we will have to go with what is available and has the requisite experience/gravitas to fit in with the current squad. Curtis Davies (29) was linked in the media last week had a much better season than Williams... I would hope that Harry & Co. have a few aces up their sleeves that no-one has though about yet... ...probably not though *allegedly
I think Onouha's best with an experienced CB next to him, and Williams fits the bill imo. They'd make a formidable pairing. I'd only hope we don't offer too long a contract; 3 years max with a relegation clause.
The big thing there being "Liverpool", Herr Uber. As I said on the Swans Board, to a big Club $6,701,600 is peanuts but we're not in Liverpool's league (well we are but you know what I mean ). It is a slight irritant to me when in order to justify one signing, people bring up the price of another player, plucked out of thin air - particularly when that signing in itself is questionable. The amount of times over the last few years I've heard Andy Carroll's ludicrous fee brought up to rationalise another ludicrous fee is mind-numbing at this stage. Someone even used it on here the other day when discussing Loic Remy. By that logic, every player that pulled on a Premier League shirt is worth $58,583,000 because Carroll is a Donkey! There'll be dozens of players signed for less than Ricky Lambert's figure this Summer but his out of the ordinary number will no doubt be floated more than once. (No offence Ubes )
Apologies for slightly irritating you, Swordsie old bean. I shall try harder next time, as slightly is clearly not good enough
Lol, Oh well one out of 300+ views is not bad! I chose not to mention the swans or Ashley Williams in thread title knowing if I had we would very likely get a few wums.
