Here is the link to Harrys interview, sounds like he wants Dawson and Ferdinard http://talksport.com/football/exclusive-ferdinand-would-be-perfect-qpr-claims-redknapp-14060394076
So you'll be happy to have a clearly inferior player to green start should he get injured? Someone like Murphy?
Green is fine as a number one and hardly too old at 34 (keepers go on for ages) We do need a better reserve than Murphy though. Speroni would be fine but I suspect he will stay down the road.
Um... you're reframing the argument here. You said that Green was not good enough to be number 1 KPD suggested (somewhat forcefully!) that that's not the case and that he is good enough - I agree with KPD. Whether Murphy is good enough to be a #2 is another issue which, here I agree with you, he is perhaps not good enough.
It's a possibility for sure. But it's not a route I would go down as I can't see the point bringing him in for such a short time. When he leaves he would most likely leave a possision that would be very difficult to fill. In my opinion we should focus on building our own side long term, and that starts this pre-season. So very much this! Green will have no trouble playing until he's 40 at the top level like Friedel and Schwarzer imo. But we need a back up/competition for Green to keep him on his toes. I really like the look of Butland, very bright future imo. If Stoke doesn't sell Begovic I think we should move in for Butland on a permanent deal.
I said he's not good enough to be a clear #1, for that to happen we would have to have a clearly inferior backup. Get a better backup and greens not the clear #1. They only way to to it it to have a top keeper with a clearly inferior backup or two lesser keepers of equal abilty. Green falls into the latter.
March played well enough for England u20s in Toulon last week ... his dad told me Guarantee you he will play for the England senior side and predict he will hit the very big time within the next two/three seasons ... If you watch Solly he has a unique gift of going past players with ease I hope to see him the next two weekends so i will tell him he needs to deliver that final ball ... love to see him in a Rangers shirt as always told him his style is QPR not Brighton
...and you were disagreed with. You also said earlier we needed 2 number 1s... (post #66) which I think divisive thus counter productive and expensive to have a number 1 sitting on the bench. For what it's worth I will reiterate my preference... Green as number 1 with a younger, up and coming number 2 (like Walton) and then Murphy as the backup number 3 If Green is not retained, then all bets are off of course... we are still waiting to hear who is in and out!
Plenty of clubs have 2 goalies competing for the #1 spot, we just offer them a smallish wage but big app. fee so only the playing goalie picks up the full wage. Offer green 20k plus 20k app fee and get one of butland, smithies or McCarthy in to be the long term no 1.
Perhaps... but I think we have a pretty specific situation here in that we have a core of players that have brought us up, are capable of playing at this level and deserve the opportunity to represent us at the top level. Don't forget what happened last time we decided we could 'do better' than the players who had done the hard work of getting us up... Green played 43/46 league games for us last season, so fitness is obviously not an issue. He performed to a high standard, made a few mistakes (show me a keeper that didn't), kept 18 clean sheets and won us several games that perhaps we should not have won. I understand that you don't rate him, I'm just unclear why...
If we sign Ferdinand, we deserve to be liquidated and slide down the leagues. *Green's had praise heaped on him for most of the season. Of course he's good enough for the PL
I've just listened to that, it doesn't sound like he wants Rio or Dawson. He was just doing his usual congenial chirpy-chappy routine. I can't believe talksport have titled that interview "Exclusive - Ferdinand would be perfect for QPR, claims Redknapp". He says nothing of the sort at any point
Exactly. We stayed up with Paddy in goal and went down with the Brazil número uno Cesar. It's all about unity and a core of players with history at the club.
I think the situation with Cesar is quite complicated. While I would never claim that he's hooped to the core I think he wanted to play, but the additional appearance fees in his ridiculous contract (blame whoever) forced us to drop him. Getting him off the payroll must be number 1 priority.....in all probability we'll be offloading a World Cup winner on a free. Bizarre.
Its not just fitness, keepers take a lot of knocks, especially to the head which they can do nothing about. The second keeper should be of greens standard, not that of Murphy.
Agreed Oddball. Ever since you mentioned you knew the lad I've kept an eye on him. He's a good little player. Not the finished article but assuming he continues in his development, there's no reason why he won't make it to the PL and even England. If he gets some end product into his game then he'll be going places.
