Surely his role in Blazing Saddles was one of his finest (and funniest)?

You are right Oddy. I'm sure Mel Brooks had him signed up first for that film. By the way do you know on American TV they censor the farts scene (or at least they used to)?

Morning, celebrities. Morning, ordinary members of the public.

Not the greatest days racing ever but there may be one lurking amongst the thorns, methinks. Last week I tipped a winner from the Ferguson barn which left my regular readers Ebullient with a capital ‘E’. Here’s an attempt for more of the same. Please note though that as it’s over hurdles this heat is taking place on the Southwell Sod rather than on the Southwell coastline at Southwell Sands.

Honour System (7.45 Southwell Sod) – this is one of those rare beasts whose hurdles rating is so low that it almost equals their Flat perch. Honour System is assessed at 105 on the level but as minimal as 115 over the sticks. A 5 time winner on the Flat of over £167k he has obvious class about him but the old boy has never really delivered, to the same standard, in 8 attempts in the sphere in which Mr Henderson dominates. He did though easily win a maiden hurdle at God’s own racecourse, Newton Abbot, at this time last year and a reproduction of that form off just 115 is going to make Honour System very difficult to beat in a race lacking even mediocrity. Somewhat disappointing since though although the old boy did show a glimmer of his old form with a promising run last time when just over 9 lengths adrift of the winner. Dropped another 3 pounds after that if on form I think Honour System should pick this lot up and carry them if anywhere near his best this evening. Eyecatchingly, he is also fitted with checkpieces for the first time at Southwell today. If they get to revive him and get Honour System to reproduce even a fraction of his former glories then expect him to be standing in the old winners enclosure later on and current quotes of 15/2 looks more than fair to my eye.

    Good luck, all.

I just dont fancy any of the front 3 or so in the market stick and at the prices he's worth an ew investment, really fancy Adaay @ Yarmouth. he won well last time and if you watch the way he picked up once he realised what the job was 11/8 is a good price :)

Cyc: The best goddamn film ever made. Casting was absolutely superb. Just too many brilliant scenes for me to say which one was the best. Nuclear strike-force Commanding Officer, Sterling Hayden going bonkers with his sudden belief in 'bodily fluids' and sealing-off the whole camp. Keenan Wynn turning-up as Col. Bat Guano, leader of the commando assault force on the rogue camp. And, of course, Peter Sellers, struggling so-hard to stop Heil Hitlering from his wheelchair, etc., etc.

Suggest you suspend your suck-holeing to these people and read Clive James's great essay "Save Us From Celebrity" and think about things before you continue with this bowing and scraping nonsense?

I can imagine it would depend on which channel Bustino - given that HBO produced Deadwood I'd find it hard to imagine them cutting out a bit of farting. But if it's one of the mainstream "moral majority" channels it may well still be censored. And they have the cheek (or ignorance) to call it the land of the free <laugh>

    Beef stew and dumplings.

Swanny, calm down, old boy. Did the steward forget to put the tonic in you lunchtime GnT?!? I was saying it somewhat ironically. You certainly won’t find me ‘bowing and scraping’ to some Zee lister. Celebrity is actually one of those words for which I think there is either no definition or one which sees each and every person hold a different definition.

Other Derby news sees Kev Manning on Sudden Wonder and Godolphin set to make a decision re Pinzolo's particiaption later in the week. I sincerely hope that like the 'Man from Del Monte' they say 'yes'.

Salad with a small bowl of cauliflower soup (which was surprisingly well seasoned). Some kerfuffle at the old cash register in the canteen though as one of the 4 tills was broken, leading to longer than usual queue times. Whilst we British usually bear such misfortune stoically with a stiff upper lip, old boy Jerry doesn't like to be kept waiting for his Bratwurst. You could cut the atmosphere with a knife.

Sir Barney, does the man from Del Monte still say "yes" these days, ir is that you showing your age again?

There were adverts showing him saying ‘yes’ a year or so ago, weren’t there?!? Or are those TV companies repeating the ads now as well as the progs?!?

Derby news overload. Old boy Oisin Murphy to ride Red Galileo.
