Thank God we have got some news. This was leaked weeks ago, but it has been officially announced today. http://www.cafc.co.uk/news/article/20140602-uog-charlton-partnership-1592943.aspx
Surprised the RD would have liked this, sounds like we've missed out on a bit of money as it's not a big company firm
So we're going to have lots of different sponsors? Like one back of shirt above the name, under then umber, back of the shorts?
They said that they had offers from betting companies and pay day loans, but they didn't want their reputation to be affected. Fair play for that but this deal doesn't strike me at all as financially beneficial but I do like the idea of having a community sponsorship rather than a company like Wonga sponsor us.
Reading the web site, sounds like we want to use their land in the Academy plans: “The Avery Hill campus sits next to our training ground and the club’s planned development of that site was an area of key interest when negotiating the partnership" So we sacrifice some up front "wonga" to get the Academy we want
Pleasantly surprised that it is not some squalid slimeball entity. Score one for the new regime. On the other hand, it could be that no hard-nosed commercial outfit cares to be associated with the epic disaster next season is shaping up to be.
Nothing to be unhappy about in this. We keep the integrity a pay day loan or gambling company loses a club and have all the benefits (aids our Cat 1 status and they are not doing it for nothing).
From memory.... one of the expensive elements about Cat 1 is the fact that the club has to have 'on-site' accommodation for the trainees, to build and maintain these is expensive but UoG has a very large set of 'student accommodation' buildings right next to our training ground.... it has always struck me that leasing some of these would be a sensible option for us. I wonder if we are getting use of some rooms and other facilities for free?
i work at the UoG, this is what we got told "Dear colleague: I am writing to let you know that the university is to enter into an important partnership with our local football team, Charlton Athletic. Building on existing close links between our two organisations, this long-term strategic relationship will bring considerable benefits to the university. It will enrich our teaching and research in the Faculties of Engineering & Science, Education & Health and Business, allowing us to expand recruitment to some programmes as well as to introduce new ones. As you may know, Charlton Athletic has a national reputation as a successful football club, with strong traditions in this area, going back over 100 years. It is also a very well respected community-orientated club working with 10,000 young people every week and in 130 schools. It is currently footballâs Community Club of the Year, with excellent work also being done by its sister organisation, Charlton Athletic Community Trust. The strategic collaboration is intended to cover: Education and research at Charltonâs proposed new training ground development at Sparrows Lane: The university will have specific timetabled access to this new facility, next to the Avery Hill Campus. Details are to be finalised, but this is likely to include two 50-seat classrooms, a hydrotherapy area including an endless swim tank, a sports injury facility, a treatment room/office, a physiotherapy area including a testing lab space, and a match analysis suite. The club also intends to build an external covered facility that will house two 9 v 9 football pitches. The university will also have access to a gym, housing strength and conditioning equipment, and an indoor track with cameras to monitor athletesâ performance. Employability: As part of the agreement, Charlton Athletic Football Club/Community Trust will contribute to our employability strategy by offering work placements, support for final year projects and employment opportunities. Senior Charlton staff will give talks and lectures to students. Community engagement and outreach: The university will work closely with the club and Charlton Athletic Community Trust by jointly engaging with local hospitals, schools and community groups. Shirt sponsorship: To celebrate our new partnership, the universityâs name will appear on first team shirts, during this coming season and the next. The teamâs new home kit will be unveiled at a media launch on the Greenwich Campus within the next few weeks. We will also get access to matches and advertising at The Valley on match days. A statement about the partnership will be released today; you will be able to find this on the front page of the university web site. I would like to thank the many members of university staff, both academic and in the professional services, who have worked hard over a long period to initiate and develop these proposals. The next step is put them into place and to realise their rewards. Regards, David Vice-Chancellor 2nd June, 2014" also this http://www2.gre.ac.uk/about/news/ar...charlton-athletic-fc-teams-up-with-university

Following their successful shirt sponsorship, Charlton have confirmed that the club’s relationship with Andrews Sykes will continue for a further two years. Andrews Air Conditioning is to feature on the back of the 2014-15 home shirt, while Andrews Heat for Hire will featured on the reverse of next season’s away top, further extending the company’s association with the Addicks as a sponsor and valued business partner. In addition, the logo of Mitsubishi Electric, the global leader in the manufacture of energy efficient solutions to heat, cool and ventilate our buildings, will also appear on the bottom of home and away shorts during the 2014/15 campaign. The announcement follows the news, first revealed on www.cafc.co.uk on Monday afternoon, that Charlton have formed a new partnership agreement with the University of Greenwich, which will see them become the club’s main shirt sponsor for the next two seasons.
