A lot of posters say buying players from relegated teams means only one thing, that you will end up being relegated. I am not party to this thinking, as I think Fletch, Lars and Guards have done OK overall and are no way our worst buys of recent years. But what is the evidence behind this belief, and who are the best buys anyone can think of from newly relegated teams, that any Premiership clubs have made in recent times.
Obviously some really good players do get relegated with their teams, and then the better one's get snapped up, for another chance. But not by the bigger clubs. Is Fraizer Campbell Prem or championship standard?
I don't believe in that rubbish either, I notice people who complain about relegated players rarely comment on ability, they just seem blinkered by the relegation. I don't care if they've been relegated, what country they've played in, what league they've come from. If they're the right sort of player we're looking for that will help us play our new system then that's all that matters to me.
Frazer is a lovely lad, but top-half Championship player for me. doesn't have the composure to be a consistent, top-level forward.
Sadly I think this too, it is why Borinni is worth that bit extra as there is not much difference in ability between them. As to my previous question not too many examples spring to mind and a possible reason is that only mid-table and lower order clubs buy players from relegated clubs. Hence the chances of them doing really well are slim, but on the other hand there are a few who can improve the overall strength of our squad out there, but you still need a nucleus of first choice starters and these players cost real money if you can find them.
Suppose the players from the how the hell did they go down, teams like West ham with Lampard/Cole etc and Newcastle, even though they managed to keep the nucleus of their squad. Suppose the advantage is they have prem experience with whatever team they played for in the top flight, but buying too many can be a mistake. Just a confidence factor really. Suppose you could put super kev in the good players that got relegated bracket and got picked up on the cheap.
To put a little spin on this.... Would anyone buy, say, Ings from Burnley? Did well last season in the Championship, but is that enough? x
There are some class players who've gone down in recent years, Demba Ba and Loic Remy for instance. In many ways, if a player performs impressively in a relegated team, it shows that they have some character as well as quality.
