So while we wait another day for Practice, how about a pre-race quiz? I'll use the NSFW tags to hide the answers and you can see how many answers you got correct.

    1. Who is the only driver to finish on the podium all 3 times at Valencia?
    [NSFW]Lewis Hamilton[/NSFW]
    2. Number of corners at Valencia?
    [NSFW]25[/NSFW]
    3. Fernando Alonso's highest finishing position at Valencia?
    [NSFW]6th [/NSFW]
    4. Where was the European Grand Prix last held before Valencia?
    [NSFW]Nurburgring[/NSFW]
    5. Most sucessful European Grand Prix driver?
    [NSFW]Michael Schumacher[/NSFW]
    6. Number of DNF's last year?
    [NSFW]3[/NSFW]
    7. In 2008, Massa won the race. Who else was on the podium?
    [NSFW]Hamilton and Kubica[/NSFW]
    8. In 2003, Ralf Schumacher won the race. Who joined him on the podium?
    [NSFW]Montoya and Barrichello[/NSFW]
    9. In the last 5 European GP's, how many times has the polesitter failed to win?
    [NSFW]3[/NSFW]
    10. Who was Coulthard trying to avoid just before he retired in 2003?
    [NSFW]Fernando Alonso[/NSFW]

How many did you get right?

    3. :(

I object to question 2 though. 17 corners + 8 bits of straight they inexplicably call a corner by my reckoning. I guessed 21 though so would've been wrong any way. :(

Yeah I got four, but I rushed them. If I thought about it I think I could have gotten 7/8

The Mercedes will be ****, like last year they qualified crap, they couldn't manage tyres and their race was practically over.

So in the sweepstake I have swapped someone who has finished on the podium every year at Valencia with someone who's best finish is 6th. <doh> Stroke of genius? Possibly. Massive cock-up? Probably.

Just as an aside I find this quite irritating. We get something of the truth from the drivers after a race when the adrenalin dies down (e.g. "my championship's over" or whatever) then they go away for a fortnight and when they come back they completely contradict what they said after the previous race and give it the whole gung-ho, fight to the last lap crap. And the media just report it without reference to what they said before. I understand why this is (satisfying sponsors and what have you) but it still irritates me.

The reverse of that is that after the race they are disappointed they did not get the result they wanted and after a quick reflection things seem a bit glum but after a week or two they have had further time to analyse everything and realise it is not over and they still have got a chance.

Plus if a driver ever admits defeat before it is mathematically proven then they should not be in F1, or any sport.
