All you gotta do is look at the league table 5 years ago, to see how much Rickie has contributed to us.
Rickie, still don't think its a great deal for either club. You are not a player who will take to bench warming for Liverpool, and with us you could of been part of a top 6 push. However, best wishes to you and yours. You were so like Ron Davies it lifted my soul to watch you play. Thanks
Thank You Rickie. Been amazing for Saints and you are the rarest of things in this world, a genuinely nice person. That first Prem goal and your very first touch in International Football had me cheering with joy. Will be sad to see you playing for a team other than Saints, but only a fool would begrudge your move to Liverpool after the things you have helped Saints achieve.
Shamefully I'm just copying my facebook status from a couple days back... I would like to state for the record that I begrudge him in no way, and am absolutely delighted for him. A boyhood Liverpool fan, returning to the club at 32 where he failed to make an impact with in his youth is a remarkable achievement. Going to the World Cup and about to be playing in the Champions League, it's a heck of an achievement for the former beetroot factory worker! I still remember the first time I came across the name Rickie Lambert. It wasn't at St. Mary's in 2009 but at Bristol Rovers' Memorial Ground, February 2008. Your goal and that defeat made it the worst match I've ever been to, but hey - at least you made up for it! I knew the day we signed you that you'd be a success, and at £1m what a bargain! So many fond memories over the last 5 years, too many to mention but a summary: hatricks against Brighton, forest, Watford and millwall, goals against the skates, your pen in the JPT final (who the hell is gonna take our pens now?!) as we as your overall contribution to 2 fantastic promotions. I don't know where we would be now if it wasn't for you, so thank you. "He took us to the premier league, Rickie, Rickie"
We are gutted to lose you, and that is because you have been a Goal machine for Southampton and you seem very down to earth. We wish you all the best for the future. But please - show the England squad how to take a penalty
Thanks Rickie, you helped us get where we are today. I hope you enjoy your last few playing years at a club you have supported as a lad.
You did a great job in Matt's shirt. Not many players could have honoured the number 7 the way you did.
Thanks, you have inspired us. I hope you have the swan-song-season or two at LFC that you deserve (except against us), and keep a few big names out of their team. Persaude others not to follow you please...
Awesome guy, awesome player, and he was my favourite of the current crop. Without him, we would not be where we are. No way. Thank you Rickie, even though my thanks is not enough, but thank you.
I now have to change my forum name. Or maybe not. I've never been so confused about how I feel on seeing a Saints legend leave. Like everyone, my feelings are mixed. Great for you, not just playing for your boyhood club but taking your family home to Liverpool. But not seeing you next season is going to take some getting used to. Most of all though, my greatest feeling is pride - after all, on your own admission you have been made in Southampton. And you've shown a bunch of southerners what being a scouser means! Have a great World Cup, and then collect a Premier League medal next year (despite Saints completing the double of course).
Thanks for everything you have done in that last five seasons Rickie, you absolute star. You are the human face of football and I will miss your humility, as well as your superlative skill. You will always be a Southampton legend. Please don't take any penalties against us next season, it wouldn't be right, but I'll look forward to seeing you getting hat-tricks against the likes of Bayern and Barca.
My favourite player of all time (and that took some doing). Liverpool are honoured to have you. Thanks for the last five years...don't forget us, we will never forget you.
My favourite season with Rickie is our season in the Championship. It was so much fun watching Rickie put goal after goal past opposition defences. One of my favourite games was Millwall away. Those two penalties he scored were vital and we all went mental in the away end. Thanks for everything Rickie, we'll miss you.
