Yes I think he will adapt, the point I was trying (badly) to make is that when he has changed position he does adapt his style of play and understands the position. He's a footballer and understands the game.

Have you lot not already picked up on the fact Gerrard has changed his game this last year?

He's moved from a very attacking player, to more of a deep lying CM. He was struggling a bit to get to grips with it, but I think with his injury now seen to he will be able to properly adapt to the role. He's playing in the same area Spearing does now - whereas before he was more of the Meireles role.

He IS very adaptable and has been described as one of the Premier league's best all rounders, so I see no reason as to why he can't change his traditional role. We may just have to put up with less long range screamers.

To be fair, one of the reasons he never shone so brightly in an England shirt was because he played a more restrained role in order to let Fat Frank grab the limelight.

Steven Gerrard has developed into the most complete midfielder that this country has seen. As an all-round midfielder he is light years ahead of Scholes, Lampard and Fabregas if only because he is a leader on the pitch.

If we are being honest, Liverpool have not seen the best of Gerrard for the best part of 2 seasons. Mostly because he was carrying an injury but also because I doubt that he could truly understand just how bad the finances had become and the damage that was being inflicted by the political games within the club. Now some of you will say that a footballer should only worry about what happens on the pitch and not off it. I would counteract that by saying YOU try giving of your best when everything around you is falling to pieces, when you appear to be being lied to all the time, etc. etc.

You have to remeber that he had tied his flag to the mast. He could have gone to Chelsea. If his heart was still not with the club he could have taken the Torres option - but he didn't. I therefore believe him when he says that he wants to stay and win trophies with Liverpool.

As for adapting his style of play, that will totally depened upon the role that Kenny wants him to perform. He will however have more options in front of him when he has to consider the choice between making a surging run and playing a pass. In effect Suarez, Carroll, Mierelles, etc. will force him to change his style.

i want him to retire form engalnd duty.

my prediction right here right now is he will get 45mins max for us in a game and then go on england duty AND AS PER come back injured.

In the end if he wqants that he can sit on the bench cos FSV can sign plenty of players who can work harder and do more for us.

    Dave.
    Excellent comment.
He can adapt and will adapt. He will do for the team what Kenny instructs him to do.If Kenny prefers him to sit back and allow others to push on,He will,if he's required to make those surging runs,He will do that too.

    Miles ahead of Scholes?

Erm....no. Scholes is without question the best english midfielder of the last 20 years. He adapted his game very well indeed.

Gerrard is more than capable of adapting his game, but without his drive from a central attacking position, and the (much discussed) lack of pace right across the Team but most obviously up front, quick Wingers would appear to be needed, and Downing is a very good Player, but another who is one-paced.

Be interesting to see who else Dalglish attempts to take to Anfield, because at this rate, this will be the slowest Liverpool Team in history.

There is a reason for that,Scholes cannot be classed as a ''complete midfielder'' due to his inability to tackle. He couldn't tackle to save his life.

We could sign Usain Bolt and Schofield would still criticise us for a lack of pace.

No, if you signed Usain Bolt, you would have one quick Player.

Well OK maybe just a little exaggerated!

My main point was that he is the more complete midfield player because he does have the ability to tackle - which puts him ahead of Scholes and to lead a team which puts him ahead of Fabregas and to create scoring opportunities for others which puts him ahead of Lampard

    Right and wrong David.

Have you ever seen Usain Bolt play football? If not then you can hardly call him a player.

However, you are certainly wrong when you state that Liverpool lack pace "across the field". Johnson may be criticised for his defensive qualities but has never been accused of lacking pace. Kelly isn't slow either. For a CB, I think you'll find Agger is pretty quick.

We all know that Liverpool lack pace out wide and have done so for a long time. Let's hope that the problem is resolved this summer.

What an inane comment. Even if you cannot be bothered to read the article which led to this thread, you could at least read the title of the thread itself<doh>

He said complete, not best. They are not the same thing, for example Ronaldo has more rounded attributes than Messi but most people would say Messi is the better player.
