Even if we're expecting him to go and merely want to play hardball on the fee, making his return to the fold entirely untenable doesn't exactly help matters, because any suggestion to Liverpool that we'll simply keep him if they don't put up the desired cash is smoke. Liverpool pissed off Suarez by rejecting bids, but they also made sure that the relationship wasn't irreparable.

On the transfer system talk, in other lines of work it's not unusual to have a clause in your employment contract that says you can't work for a competitor for a set period of time after leaving. I know pro wrestlers have them for example and hell, my girlfriend had one when she worked for Mothercare as a teenager.

When, right now, has Adam himself got time to continually make phone calls? Me thinks he has a dodgy agent.

    Give me a break.

Lallana is not a slave. He's not being forced to work. He can quit the club any time he likes and retire with his millions. Or get a job delivering pizzas. I'm guessing he's not too into that, though.

I'm consulting the UN Declaration of Human Rights.... Don't see "right to play attacking mid at Liverpool FC" listed for some reason.

Calling that "paid slavery" is actually quite offensive, tbh. There is real human trafficking and slavery still going on today. To compare Lallana's situation with the horrors other people suffer is insensitive in the extreme.

somehow think if your profession is as limited in scope as a footballer that would not hold up.

if you work on the checkout at mothercare and get offered a job in dixons presumably nobody would give a toss.

unless you have a severance lump sum. managers routinely can't take another job for a while

As I said all we have heard is the players side. I bet he just didn't like what he heard. It's weird how such a **** board can look better then some of the players that play for the same team. Yes they may need to communicate to the press more, but imagine the **** they are going through.

The board keep silent with everything going on, trying to deal with the ****. Were as the players start putting lil hints in the media. Then when that doesn't work they full on bitch. Not blaming the press (DTLW) I think they have been played as well.

Does it really matter? I suppose if it's an agent calling you could say "Tell Adam to call me himself." but really the same principle applies whether it's the player calling or his representative - you need to keep some kind of relationship in place if you want him to stay.

    Lloyd Isgrove on Twitter:

    "Never burn bridges ;)"

Shut up, Lloyd. Whether in reference to Adam, Les or Ralph, that helps no one.

Did they keep Suarez because of their negotiating skills, or was it because they were Liverpool and ultimately playing for Bayern Munich is nit really all that different than where he was at?

What if the board said we won't be holding any more transfer discussions until we have a new manager and after the World Cup. AL/ his agent didn't like this so talked to Blackmore to try and make out Lallana is the victim?

Playing for a team that just finished seventh was no different than playing for a team in Champions League, which was Suarez's stated desire?

And yes, they did keep him owing to their negotiating skills. Hell, they even flat-out ignored a clause in his contract because they didn't think that it would stand up in court. But they also managed to keep the lines of communication with Suarez open such that they kept him, he went on to have a massive season, and they damned near won the Premier League thanks to it.

And what about the other players who have similar concerns with the way the board is operating?

In any event, I don't think that closing ranks and being silent helps us in the slightest. If we have even a slight hope of keeping him if a team fails to meet our valuation, it's rather important that the bridges don't get burned even if he is angling to leave. Otherwise, all we have done is create a situation where, rather than Liverpool getting him before the World Cup, we'll have a pissed-off Lallana attempting to force a transfer later in the window and absolutely no leverage in keeping him.

How sure are we that this is anything to do with the club? Looks possible it may not be given the "Can't trust no one" tweet an hour earlier.
