You do realise that could now score another goal against us, Chilco..?

    Small consolation indeed.

My American friend from Noo Joisey, who I took to St Mary's only once, will be gutted. The Rickie song is his favourite football chant, along with - dare I say it - "he plays on the left, he plays on the riiiight", etc.

On the basis that Gerrard doesn't even step aside to let Suarez take penalties, it will be interesting if he allows Lambert to take them.

He should, but I'm not sure that he will.

He should, because just like the commentator states in that video posted earlier 'you don't keep out a Rickie Lambert penalty'

He'd be an idiot if he didn't. He'd be turning a maybe into a definite if he gave way.

Just to add to the depression

Since Lambert signed for us in 2009 he has missed just 6 league matches out of 213 (starting 197 and 10 from the bench) scoring 105 times

Of the 10 substitute appearances (9 in PL) Saints were W2 D3 L5 (Lambert came off the bench to score in both wins)

The six league matches he has missed W1 D1 L4 :emoticon-0107-sweat

That will be offset by the fact that we are bound to get a replacement.

I'm chuffed for him. We all know he's a top bloke and he's been a pleasure to watch this last 5 years. There's also a large pinch of devastation added to that emotion as I had hoped Rickie would retire a Saint.

If you look closely, there is a tan mark on his arm where his watch was. Either:

    1. Saints took it off him
    2. It was nicked on the way in
    3. He pawned it on return to his spiritual home

Anyway, good luck to him - always a gent and a legend for us. When he wins the World Cup, he will still be a Saints player in my eyes.

The one thing that is really, really sad about this, is that we haven't been able to say goodbye as a home crowd and thank him fully.

Yes, he's been great for us and seems a decent, modest, likable guy. But I can't be chuffed for him and I have to say, I'm a bit pissed off with him for leaving.

I wonder if in however many years time, we will sign Lambert to a 1 day contract, so that he can retire a Saint. I know American sports teams do that a lot, don't know about football teams though, but I think it would be fitting. Gutted we don't get to say goodbye to him and thank him for all he has done for the club :emoticon-0106-cryin
