    Morning remote. <ok>

I see Tan has just been quoted in Malaysia about putting his total faith in Ole's management ability and backing him by funding it accordingly. That's some solid positive news and just what we need to hear. As far as the defence is concerned, I think we'll see some departures before we get anyone else in at the back. The Caulker/Medel thing is key - if (when?) they go, a lot of wage commitment will go with them, and that could be be the key.

Mind you, I suppose we've already said that about the new striker signings, and nobody has gone yet so who knows. I see Freedman wants Joe mason back at Bolton for this season and I can see that happening now we've got a glut of front runners.

I think I'd rather keep Medel than Caulker but not sure how either would take to the Championship. With the likes of Mutch, Dahli, Noone, kim and others going forward we still need an enforcer / ball winner in the middle to give them the ball.

Nice that we've signed a few that can put the ball in the back of the net, certainly at Championship level, so we just need to load the gun for them to pull the trigger.

On Mason, I think it's a case of piss or get off the pot. Play him or sell him.

Personally I'd prefer to keep him and move on Gunner, Cowie and possibly Kim.

Going back to the 2 for each position plus a few, I think he should be one of the few. Ideal to have on the bench as he can cover a number of positions or change the set up slightly. He could become an OGSesque super sub!

We need to be able to bring equal standard players when someone is injured / suspended / in need of a rest (often the case in the Championship) and I see Mason as someone who would be a valuable squad player.

Just hope to God that someone takes KWJ off our hands!

Phil - the thread was put up tongue in cheek and to attract some decent chat and varying opinions about our next season. You're welcome to contribute - even Dai and Aussie have offered opinions on the subject and most of the comments have been relevant.............and then you come along with your one-liner crap. <doh>

You used to be up for a decent chat with some good humour thrown in, but now you're just becoming a boring nuisance with your pointless quips. There's nothing really offensive in what you post, but mate, it's all so ****ing boring!

We can put up with the one-off clowns that come on here, but you've turned into a serial clown that's going to get a slap before long if you keep it up pal. <ok>

Good thread, took a while for the bites, but it does allow opinions of how this championship is going to turn out.
Don't think anyone is under any illusion as to how hard this will be.

Ole has got what he is good at out of the way by bringing strikers he believes will give us the goals we are going to need.
It shouldn't come as any surprise that sorting out Defence and Mid will take a bit longer, and if he gets that right we have an excellent chance.

It is a reflection on certain visitors to this thread that they didn't take it in the spirit it was meant, perhaps a few seconds more thought before writing would have made them see the light, probably not though.

In all fairness I thought Phils one liner was a better contribution then any of Aussies efforts.

I would like to see ole be a success as he is a likable chap but i cant stop thinking that he is concentrating to much on scoring goals and not enough in the defensive side of the game. All i can see is him tracking goal scorers and that has not been the problem at cardiff, Its midfield and defenders he needs as they can win you games by keeping clean sheets. I would rather win 1-0 and control the game than lose 1-2 while still dominating but due to poor defending and lose or draw the game you should have won.

Dai - I sometimes doubt your judgement if not your sanity on some occasions. You have just landed the plank post of the month pal.....<laugh>

We haven't been able to score goals for years and from memory, Whitts was the last player who gat anything like a decent personal tally.

As far as winning 1-0 is concerned, with a decent goalscorer we could have done that at home Villa and Everton - that would have kept us up but we were toothless.

your midfield and defence sent you back to the championship not your goal scoring ability. It did not matter if you scored first the opposition would nearly always score more and that was because of very poor defending. can you imagine if marshal never had a good season and caulker was not there to defend ? what would the goals against have been then.

I agree especially the defence. We had the best goalkeeper in the league and a decent centre back in Caulker as well as a renowned defensive midfielder in Medel yet we had the second worst goals against record in the league. It doesn't take a genius to calculate that the problem lay with the rest of the defence with our full backs the main culprits. They constantly got caught out of position and, even when defending, frequently played the opposition on side. What does the manager do when it was obvious what the source of the problem was? Bring in a load of Norwegians and a defender from Manchester United who can't defend and even more strikers. It's early days of course but my verdict so far is that, unlike Vincent Tan, I have no faith in OGS to sort the defence out.

Phil - I can understand your relief at surviving in the Prem this season. When you got beat at Hull and then by Chelsea at the Liberty, you were in deep **** with 4 games to go. Most of you were crapping yourselves big time and we hardly heard from you lot.

Your win at Newcastle after that was a big relief - if you'd lost that one , you could have gone down the pan. As it was, that game and the following win against Villa was enough for you to start shouting your mouths off.........and you haven't stopped since........<laugh>

That's fair enough for a football forum like this, but as far as this thread goes, if you want to comment on our chances next season in the Championship, just like Dai above, please feel free - that's what it was put up for. Otherwise, for Christ's sake take a raincheck on the "funny" one liners pal. <ok>

That is the key i think. OGs dont look as if he has a clue about defending and there are far to many bigger sides in the championship that will exploit ogs weakness next season. Can tan attract any decent managers though if OGS fails to get cardiff in at least contention with the big clubs, Im not sure he can...

He could attract a better calibre of manager than Gary Monk.

    I agree about the defending.

I dont think its even the players we have. Its his ability to organise the side to defend as a team.

This back 4 - John Hudson Turner Fabio will be as good as anything if coached correctly. Add in McNaughton or Connelly or Cala and all more than good enough if coached correctly.

We do need a defensive midfielder though. He has to bring someone in. Medel is leaving and we have no replacement unless Cala plays there.
