Chelsea played better football under Benitez than they did/do under Mourinho. I realise that's not saying much.

If you're going to go down that route, then there's also Man Utd wanting Shaw. The same Man Utd who sacked Moyes. The same Moyes who could be in charge of us at the same time as Shaw is still a Saints player...

I still stand by what i said about Moyes. I need some decent news and sorry to sound selfish but he isn't who i want here. He's not a big enough name and he's not good enough. If he was he would be at Spurs now. He proved at Man U that he isn't good enough. Sorry, but he had a team like that at his disposal and turned them into a team that finished 1 place above us. And didn't win or qualify for anything. Is he all of a sudden going to turn our team into anything better than it already is?

He tried attacking football early on at Man U yes, and it didn't work. Would he make it work here? If it didn't would he try and change things like it did at there and expect it to work? In the end there were a couple of comments i remember from players saying his training sessions were boring. Yes i know, big name charlies and all that, but that's not what we want here. And besides, his old good solid team that he always gets praised about is doing a whole lot better now he's gone isn't it? Martinez at Man U last season would maybe have been a different story?....

Moyes would have been sacked at any of the top teams last season. He isn't good enough for us if our ambition of progression is still there. We will never have the money for the players needed to automatically be in the top mix. So we must find another manager, yes we had one, and spurs know it, that can give us the edge. Moyes is not that man.

Which leads me back to Koeman. I see nothing what so ever to not want this guy as manager. He is clearly very ambitious. He has shown in the Eredivisie that he can keep take one of the teams expected to do well (like us i would like to think) and win things and qualify for things without spending huge sums of money. He so called failures in spain and portugal are slightly harsh. Valencia was never a huge club and isn't doing that great nowadays (Swansea anyone?) and at the time Benfica were still in the dormant stage. Porto were a very good side back then...Yet he still won Cups at both clubs and got to the quarter finals of the champions league. I'm sure we would be happy with that at worst? Just the FA cup would be nice yea?

More importanly is the way we would play. Now we have the resources, and the players to play 'total football' and he is a manager that know all about that. He is part of why everyone loved how the dutch play. Now he has just left Feyenoord in a good position. He did very well there considering the financial postion they were in. He didn't have much money to spend and lost a few players in his time there but put them back on the map after years of underachieving and fully used to youth system there. It made me think that i always remember seeing Feyenoord in the champions leagues of old. they went missing for years. Well he's managed to bring it back regularly again for them. He wants a new challenge and wants to manage in England. I think it would work very well.

Plus, what a player. There's nothing he hasn't done in football. Well excect win the World Cup, he's won it all. He is one of the world's greatest footballers and would walk into any team today in his prime. Barcelona would love him back :) Imagine all that experience to plass to our younger lads !

I say give him a shot, give us something to bring a smile to our faces, and to make other teams boards talk about it. It will show a lot more intent than if Not wanted by Spurs David Moyes gets the job.

Oh that was a big post, sorry about that :)

    Are you his agent Stinger?

I came to Moyes defence a little bit from your post earlier, but if we have the chance to get Koeman and he has made public that he would be keen to come here then I think it's a good fit and his playing career gives him that instant respect from players.
Probably enough for those players to put on hold any potential moves away and see what he has to say and how intends to bring the club forward and start that much vaunted communication

I wish i was hehe. I just fancy some good news that's all. I have nothing against Moyes, i mean he seems a nice bloke. But i think he would be a backwards step. Would rather have Adkins back, or even Sherwood. I do hope it's sorted soon though one way or the other. And no more players are sold untill at least after the world cup. Don't want anymore sold fullstop of course but i at least don't want the world cup to not include any saints players. This break has been gloomy enough as it is already :(

Moyes has said he isn't sure if he is ready to take on another managerial job at the moment (on Sky).

Yes there is an article by Moyes in the Sunday Times today. He says he has had a couple of very tempting offers, including from England, and hasn't decided his next move. He may not be my first choice, but if we did appoint Moyes, I would not be disappointed at all.

That is certainly my feeling too. And tbh, I get the impression that that is a general consensus amongst all Saints fans.

He said he's not sure, not that he definitely won't take a job.

If the two are Koeman and Moyes, then we will be getting a good manager in with decent ambitions.

To me that seems like a polite way of saying I'm not interested in the current jobs on show.

Or a way of saying he's not been offered a job.

Only problem is he did not really give many youth players a chance to breakthrough.

But did he have the kids to give a chance to, Rooney and Barkley aside (who he did give debuts to)?

And either way, no manager can really ignore our youth academy. Even a lover of experience like Harry still gave a debut to Walcott for us, and to numerous kids at West Ham. No credit for that goes to Harry - it's just he couldn't ignore what he was fortunate enough to have in front of him.

Rodwell as well. Everton didn't have much good youth to come through. Most of it was like Gosling and Jose Baxter who went down the leagues. You can only bring youth through if they're good enough.

A for Martinez doing better with the same team. Moyes didn't have Lukaku or Delafeu. Both on loan not bought. Plus Barkley was one year older and playing more games. Would be better to judge next season I would think.

The Everton fans weren't criticising Moyes when he was there. They were criticising Kenwright for holding them back in terms of finance. Sound familiar :)

I think Moyes would be a good fit for the short term (2-3 seasons) because he was steady the ship. We are in danger of capsizing at the moment.

But he isn't my first choice. Koeman isn't really but then beggars can't be choosers. Hughton has to be a joke surely.
