I seem to remember at the time, talk of doubling his wage came up. No idea how true that is.

Look as fans we will always be the last to know anything to do with players in or out or managers the same, let's not be naive about it,this Lambert deal has been going on for months since January I would imagine, you've only got to listen to what he said in his brief interview on Saturday. It will be the same regarding the managers situation, the club will be notified of moves and they won't go public,so we think everything is rosey in the garden when in fact it couldn't be further from the truth.

That's a shame. That leaves me with a tiny blemish on his book, only a small one mind you. I know all the thoughts about his age and not had years at the top, but even still, I prefer the dream move to Liverpool bit.

He was also looking at less game time with us, before Osvaldo exploded. I can't really blame him in the circumstances.

I keep seeing the lazy journos suggesting if Liverpool don't sign Palling the ME will get him for Spurs.

I can't see this as he was regularly subbed under him and never looked best pleased about it.

I know he used to run himself into the ground but isn't that bad management to allow players to do so even with our pressing Game?

Mate, for all these guys, football is their career. And those careers are as short now as they've ever been. Of course there are all sorts of factors at play when individuals make big decisions, personal character being one. But ultimately it's business.

I once worked for a very large concern where a strong Trade Union was often in conflict with management. It was commonplace for a lot of the Union reps, many of the "left wing firebrand" variety, to take management jobs at the end of their careers in order to boost their pensions on retirement. Some did it with regret, some with relish. But they nearly all did it.

Don't get me wrong Archers, I said a tiny blemish. He's been great and wish him well. He goes a Saints hero for me, nearly 100%. I understand his wants, yet I wish I hadn't heard the money bit about possibly going to west ham.

He did indicate a while ago that he had to be more motivated by money now with a family to think about. Can understand that...he's only been on decent money for a few years and he no doubt has a nice house with a mortgage and facing an uncertain future. He would play less for us over the next few years, so no big pay rises there. How many of us could afford to turn down a massive signing on fee near the end of our careers. Bet he's glad the move was blocked now...may have get less from Liverpool but what a nice end to his career.

He will no doubt be having a testimonial game in a year or two, maybe a 2-leg match between Saints and Liverpool?

Lambert is still a legend for me; one of the symbols and architects of our recent success. I don't begrudge his move at all, not even if a big pay rise (not to mention a possible role in a CL team) played its part.

TBH Lambert's situation reminds me that a move for money isn't necessarily always just plain greed. Lambert is probably nearing the end of his career, has a family to think about and as far as I know he hasn't had that many years earning high wages by footballer standards. Lallana, should have more years left on his career to Lambert but he may well be having similar ideas!

Well tbh I dont think they may be many clubs that would pay £30m for Lallana if thats what Southampton wants.

Maybe Spurs would pay that much.

Take 25% off 30 million and we are left with 22.5 million. In theory, we could get 2 decent players, but we could end up with a couple of duds. No guarantees.

It's largely because of that 25% sell-on clause that I wouldn't be surprised if Lallana ends up staying. I think it could be our one saviour in terms of keeping him.

I imagine (or at least, I hope) we'll be asking for £30m-ish, so that we're left with upwards of £20m after paying Bmouth off. And would anyone be willing to spend that much?

So unless Lallana were to then hand a transfer request - and I really don't think he would. He might get a little miffed, but I don't think it would be to the extent of requesting a transfer - then everyone is a stalemate, and Adam stays.
