I agree with you 10 million for Remy is not enough if correct, full stop. Whether we screwed up on the original deal or if we are selling him for this now, it's not enough for a player of his calibre in the market for players, and especially strikers and attacking creative midfield players, at his Euro and International level today. Remy will be playing for France, one of the WC favorites, and is capable of playing CL football. The amounts I see speculated on, rumoured proposed by Milan, for Adel are also way low. I really hope TF only sells these players at the top wak Euro levels they are playing at, not 2nd division cut price levels we see thrown about in the media for them. If Remy and Adel were Scum players the rumours would be at least double what we are seeing for them.
It will be years, if ever, before we buy an established, top striker. The only way we will ever get one is by buying an up-and-coming player and striking it lucky if he makes that giant leap to greatness. We know that if this happens the player won't stay for long as he will be off for a "big club" and CL football, etc.
Assuming that there is a clause, and I would be surprised if there wasn't one.... Remy would likely not have signed for us without the security that a low release fee gave him. He wanted a chance to prove himself in the Prem to try and get a move to one of the top 6 clubs. We were absolutely desperate for a bit of genuine quality, and in no position to beat someone like Newcastle to the signing, without incentives. A large wage would be one, and the other was probably a low release fee, so he could move on at the end of the first season if he'd done well, without us holding it up with an exorbitant fee being asked. His own personal situation has clouded and confused things certainly, by dragging this out to the next summer transfer window.
Only read the OP title..but been saying it all year...Why would he not go to Arsenal? Match made in heaven...for a top top player.! Im trying to think of another player as good as him who ever played for us ? #ELITE
Yeh, I read all this before and the uncertainty on whether the release cause was just on the one season or staying up or what. It should have been restricted , so now we could now realise his market value. Hopefully it is, the £10 may well not be correct.
Finally, someone twigs it. He has a release clause not a relegation clause. Without it he would not have joined us. He could not exercise it last summer because he was accused of rape. He can, and will this summer. In the process he saves us over £4m a year in 'wages'.
Touché! Good call, we are both as ignorant as each other on this. I'd just ask you to accept that if he is sold for £8-10m that was the price for getting him to come to us at all.
Ultimately the only ones who know the ins and outs of his contract are the player, his agent and those high up at the club, there could two release clauses for all we know, one relegation at the value we paid and one at £15 or £20mill after two seasons, I doubt anything will be sorted before the World Cup finishes so we will have to wait and see!
We got him for 8m, we've sold him for 10m plus the 2m loan fee. In effect we had him for a season for free including the wages. He's still worth more than 10m though.
Yes a bargain but if we could have got more I trust the club to have done that. When you look at Southampton turning down £25m for Lallana then yes Remy looks cheap but we don't know the ins and outs of his contract plus British players are terribly overpriced. Shame he's off as he's one of the best finishers I've seen play for us, but remember we are not a CL side and these types of players will always be looking for the next big move - see Yoyo Toure's birthday strop Onwards and upwards. I'll take Jordan Rhodes
Rhodes would be a better player for us, Remy is purely a finisher and we need someone to battle and hold up the ball and bring others into play.
I wonder how many Rangers fans would welcome him back? Imagine a season with him alongside Charlie. Awesome player, deadly finisher and I hate the thought of losing him to the Gooners! I have seen better in hoops though, even in the same position, anyone remember Sir Les Ferdinand?
Our last 20+ league goals a season striker. I've been waiting 20 years for the next one to come along but it ain't happened yet. Furs looked like doing it in 04/05 but he hit a barren run for the last 10 games or so and ended on 18. Chazza would've done it the season just gone had he not gotten injured. I think I may be waiting another few years
Remy playing well for France against Paraguay right now. Presume you'll be following the Deutsche Mannschaft against Cameroon tonight though (Not banned anymore as of now and stand by every word I posted btw)
