The French international, who spent last season on loan at Newcastle, was reportedly also a target for Liverpool and Tottenham, while himself this week admitting he would like to join Chelsea. But according to Sky News Radio, Arsenal have beaten Remy’s other suitors to the punch, snapping him up ahead of the World Cup which starts in under two weeks. It is believed the Gunners will have to pay around £10m for the 27-year-old’s services. If today’s reports are correct, Remy could prove to be a useful signing by Arsene Wenger, who is moving unusually quickly this transfer window. Last summer, it took the Arsenal boss until deadline day to bring in record signing Mesut Ozil, but he appears to have learnt his lesson this time around. Remy scored 14 goals in 29 appearances for club and country last season and will provide much-needed support for countryman Olivier Giroud. http://metro.co.uk/2014/05/31/arsenal-agree-personal-terms-with-qpr-striker-loic-remy-4746132/? What about agreeing terms with the club? Looks like the reported release clause is valid and has nothing to do with relegation. A shame as he is the best player we've had in decades. But Champions League would always tempt him away and who can blame him. Best of luck Loic.
I'd much rather he went to an overseas club, but that seems unlikely. It's a funny situation, really, having a player as good as Remy on your books, but one that will have left having played more games for somebody else. Loaning him out for season seemed a good piece of business if he was then available once promotion was secured, otherwise why not sell him straight away? I guess the trial hanging over him was the problem, huh? What money he scores against us next season?
I'm banking on him being injured when they play us, which he is a lot. If this is true and we get £8 - 10m for him, cue outrage from the many on here who think he's worth £20m (he isn't...yet) and don't understand the politics and pragmatism which brought him to us in the first place. But we should also remember he doesn't want to play for us and he costs us over £4m a year in wages.
Why surprise and outrage? We have known he would go for roughly what we paid for him as he'd never have joined us without that clause. He was signed in desperation and we had to let him call all the shots. Arsenal were always likely to sign him and that's what has happened. Lesson learned (again)...
The clause is a relegation one, other then that we could hold out for what we like. In regards to value, if Andy Carrol was worth £35mill, then we should be asking a hell of a lot more then £10mill(if we can).
That's a non-argument mate to be honest. There are always terrible deals done in the game and that was one of them. Dalglish showed how out of touch with the modern game he was by squandering that amount of money on Carrol. So no, Carrol wasn't worth 35mill and people can't keep trotting that one out to big up the prices of other players. It was a freak transfer and there'll always be one or two of those. I'd take 10 right now for Remy. Good player but doesn't want to stay with us and is out injured a lot. I'd let Taarabt go to Milan on a free if they're skint
How many more times is that release clause going to be discussed on here. None of us really know what it says but all will become clear no doubt.
I think you're correct about Remy - he doesn't want to play with us, plus he seems prone to niggly injuries, unless Uncle Tony can have a FIFA 14 session with him. At £10 million we recoup our original investment, plus we got money from Newcastle (£2 million) for his loan last season. "The France international, who has had no trouble settling into a team dominated by French speakers, has signed a loan deal that will keep him at Newcastle until the end of the season, but the Magpies have also agreed a clause with QPR that allows them to sign him for £8 million. Newcastle paid £2 million up front as a loan fee and will have to find another £6 million in January if they can get Rémy to agree to bring things forward. But there is concern that the former Marseille man will not be willing to make that decision at the start of the new year as he wants to keep his options open." http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...n-loan-move-from-QPR-to-permanent-switch.html please log in to view this image
It's public knowledge that there was a relegation clause in the contract, that's never been in question! The only issue is whether the clause still exists now we are no longer relegated and that is probably a question for over paid lawyers to answer! In regards to value, ok I'll accept that the Carrol price was way over the top but look at the top scorers from last season, even missing a chunk of the season and with an average Newcastle team he scored 14 goals, just a couple less then Giroud, he is worth at least £20, imagine how many goals he would score with Ramsey and Ozil supplying him!!
That's what drives his value down mate. A player can be as good as Ronaldo but if he's injured he's not worth a sh*t. I know what you're saying otherwise though. He is a quality player when fit.
He's gone. All I care about now is how long we have to wait for such a quality striker to play for us again. I hope not another 10 to 15 years.
He actually played 26 times for Newcastle last season which isn't that bad really, if I remember right he had a 3 game ban too so could have played 29, not that much of a crock!!
Yeah, I forgot that some of it was when he was banned! He wasn't that much of a sicknote at all, missed the last game too apparently because it was a nothing match for Newcastle and didn't want to risk injury for the World Cup!
