The Cork and Fonte contract situations really frustrate me. They are the most easiest deals to do. Both want to stay, and Cork has even spoken about his concern that the board haven't even brought it up with him. At least it would be some good news for the supporters.
This situation may be true, but it was aggravated by Mauricio wanting out. Normally he would have progressed the contract talks....without his input everything has ground to a halt. Reed should know this and sort it, but hasn't. His boss (the Chairman) knows nothing about football and is leaving everything to Reed (for good or ill). this all comes down to getting the new manager in quickly...and we don't want a bland yes-man.
Isn't this player liaison role really the job of the manager? If you ask me Pochettino knew he was going and hasn't kept up with his duties.
Cortese was impressed by Reed due to his involvement with The FA and his youth development prowess. Les was always in charge of the youth side of the club, Nicola had a tight-grip over senior team affairs.
No, the coach isn't really the liaison between the players and the board, especially when it comes to contracts/transfers, which seems to be the crux of this issue.
He got the job when Marcus was still with us, so I guess it was a Cortese decision. Nicola was probably just able to keep the reins on him more than Kruger and the gang are.
But that would indicate that nobody else knew that Fonte/Cork hadn't been spoken to, which I can't get onside with for a minute. You can't lay all this at MPs door. Tiss is still being relatively positive on Twitter if people need cheering up, though I don't think he knows any more than the rest of us at all.
right. can we get a petition or template letter together so that anyone concerned about this dynamic can inform the board of that concern? reed seems to have been universally disliked through his career.
Mauricio isn't stupid, he knew what he was doing. How many times did he clearly contradict the word of the board? KL: Pochettino reassured MP: She said hello just before this press conference LR: We speak everyday and are planning for next season MP: Club needs to tell me the plans And so on... Mauricio wanted to go and the communication was poor. That communication has now carried over to the dressing room as senior pros look to find a link between boardroom and dressing room. Are Kelvin, José, Morgan... (our key figures in the dressing room) troublemakers? I can't say I think so.
As if Rickie wanted to go to West Ham in January for the money. West Ham!?!? Bit disappointed in him for that to be honest. It's not like we aren't paying him good money. Slightly souring.
Just a matter of weeks ago I saw Cork and Fonte as probably not good enough to be in next season's strongest team. Now I'm back to seeing them as key players.
Doubt he's been unhappy in that sense...he carried on playing well for us, didn't he? He seemed his usual self. It comes down to a last pay day...it has worked out alright in the end for him.
Ties in with that interview he gave talking about how he needed to start thinking about his family late on in his career. Makes sense I guess, because footballers only have short careers and he's not exactly been on the major money side for very long, but still, it is disappointing.
