I get that, but why so quick? It can't be just because Liverpool said now or we go elsewhere. We could have said, lets do the World Cup and then talk.

I don't think that there's anyone who could put that gun to our heads other than ourselves. For all of the talk of forcing moves, it's entirely impossible to actually force a move; you can create a situation where failing to make the deal looks like an unpalatable option, and indeed it happens all the time, but the timing of the decision and willingness to move forward is entirely in the hands of the selling club, and not even a transfer request can change that. There may have been voices in ears, but the panic is all us.

I agree, which brings me back to why? I don't buy ineptitude, Les Reed is still there and so is the other commercial guy..Rogers?

i can see there being no plan going forwards that includes lambert.

that in mind, I can see us giving in to liverpool's final and best offer for him for his sake.

if we capitulate to liverpool before the world cup over their supposed final offer for Lallana questions will have to be asked.

four years of contract is enough to tell the player to pipe down.

Key weekend in the Lallana saga. If he goes to Miami a Saints player, I think he'll stay.

If we go through with this deal, we've marked ourselves out as the softest touch in Premier League history. We showed more balls when we in administration. You don't sell to the buyer's terms. You sell to yours.

I might pop down the Saints Superstore tomorrow and give them two minutes to accept my 50p offer for a shirt.

Because Lambert isn't as critical as others to the team's success and he really deserves to go to Liverpool if that's what he wants instead of mucking about. How mad would he be if he ended up not going because the very thing he'd worked so hard and dreamed about (playing in WC) scuppered his move? There is a good chance he doesn't even play so it won't impact his value one way or the other. And beyond that, there seems to be whispers that he's damaged goods. So we may never get more money for him than right now. I'm perfectly okay with the Lambert move in isolation, as far as the board aspect of it.

Now Lallana is a totally different story. What's going on with him definitely smells more than a little fishy. I'm worried about that move. A lot.

Is Les calling the shots? How many transfer negotiations would he have run point on if so? Those are the questions I'd be asking, but to me it looks like "where is the dysfunction in the board" rather than "is the board dysfunctional".

The board has to be ****ing up, or we wouldn't be backing off valuations. No one can make us do that.

Yep. Been well and truly bullied into it, if it happens. Not an encouraging sign.

selling lambert cheap should bump up lallana's fee by the amount we've conceded though.

how about that for a concept?

    35m?

that's not even including the rise in AFCB's cut.

I don't think it's ineptitude either, that would worry me less as there would be half a chance of them getting the hang of it!

I honestly think there is a deliberate attempt to recoup funds and cut high earners whilst presenting the fans with smiling Ralphy. Everything he says in public flies in the face of what Blackmore has been saying about the players not being communicated to. Why would most of the players have felt the need to question the board in public if they had been told what is going on behind the scenes?

We will have to see how this one plays out. When the Lambert bid came in and it was confirmed there was an inevitability about it. The price was fair, he is a big Liverpool fan and he is nearing the end of his career.
This Lallana bid should be different, the price is more but Lallana has no known affinity to Liverpool. The board should be able to stand firm on this

no affinity, long contract, valuable to the club going forward, no dire urgency to leave.

I don't know how true this is but wasn't Lallana an Everton fan when he was a child?
