I really appreciate the apology Terror. Just a shame some education can be so brutal. I also apologise for posting misinformation and any insults. :emoticon-0150-hands

A part of me thinks that this was what all this was about, I wanted to know if I was thinking clearly.

This has been a bit of an awakening. I felt I was slipping down the slippery slope. Just this week I had a couple of people on Facebook from the Welsh Defence League request my friendship. Wanting me to go on protest marches. About a million posts on Lee Rigby, Islam this, Islam that.

I was being constantly bombarded with information and it was starting to make me feel ill. Facebook and other social media can be very dangerous tools of propaganda. It's become apparent I was doing the same thing on here that these other people have been doing to me the last few weeks.

Just a shame so many others out there will be sucked into this.

    Peace.

All I said was he posted a racist comment.

Do you think any of these posts is racist?

Depends on a persons definition of what is Racism. For me I see a misguided generalisation based on a particular race that can offend. It's the same as the Welsh man shagging sheep generalisation. It's clear he is mistaken. Even if he said some black males or a minority of black males it would still seem Racist to some.

Racism in my eyes is persecution and hatred of a race and I see neither is his statements. Words can offend of course but that is all they are. It is clear he has seen some black males doing some things he disagrees with, this has obviously clouded his judgement. But he doesn't deserve the accusations that he is a racist for a few misguided comments.

Edit: OK no correlation with a racist statement and then being a racist? why does this thread exist?

That edit was rhetorical and sarcastic. Maybe I should have put in question marks earlier. Do you think he is racist while making what you think are racist comments?

You said everything I would have said and more, the whole persecution and hatred is what I deem as racist comments. Anything that belittle's them, makes them inferior, is racist.

A generalisation is not racist, same as I don't find the whole welsh sheep shagger / new zealand sheep shagger thing racist.

You saying that none of those statements belittles Black males, or makes them out to be inferior? Fück my eyes.

They're obviously not meant as a compliment - at least you can see that.

I can agree with you that they are not complimentary, but I don't see it belittling them (that's my genuine opinion) its like me generalising that all Muslims treat their wives like crap, its a bad generalisation, but its not racist IMO.

So it didn't belittle them? Wow. Did it make them out to be inferior?

What about the last two statements aimed specifically at one poster? They can't be classed as generalisations (although I don't accept the first statement is one).

Not to me, its just a different lifestyle choice that I felt Vetch was saying, yes he was wrong in his broad generalisation, but is he wrong in regards to how the many he met lived. No, so how can it be racist, its fact in his experiences. Its not belittling them, same as many muslim men think of women differently, its true, its not racist, its not belittling them, its fact.

That was two users have a heated debate, both apologised for their parts and any offence that many have occurred, so as far as those last 2 comments go, they were sorted between the pair, but same as the rest, they were not racist IMO, just a bad generalisation, they are not belittling.

I go back to my question, if I was to say

"All Muslim men, are brought up to think they are superior to women."

Is that racist in your eyes? If so please can you explain in detail, why that is.

You've admitted the statement wasn't complimentary.

So an uncomplimentary statement about all black males is not racist?

As for "All Muslim men, are brought up to think they are superior to women."

I wouldn't call that racist as Islam is a religion not a race. There's a clue in the word if you look closely.
Being Muslim is a choice. No-one chooses the color of their skin.

And why was he made to apologise (which he albeit reluctantly did) if the comment wasn't racist?

"Being Muslim is a choice" this very statement could start a whole big debate again. I for one can't be arsed.

I don't know how many times I have to say it, I did not find it racist. He has not made them out to be inferior to any other race. And that is my opinion on it. He has just stated a lifestyle that he has witnessed, yes it was wrong to generalise them all by it, and that is where the offence was taken. The generalisation, not by what was said.

    Ok bad example.

Do you think that the term

"The welsh are sheep shaggers" is a racist comment? Now you could say the Welsh is not a race, but by definition we are, due to our history and culture.

Also being Muslim is also not always a choice, go tell that to the young women who was sentenced to death, for refusing to give up her Christianity.

He wasn't made to apologise, he was asked to apologise, as it was clear his comments offended Kwame.

If I call you an idiot, does that offend you? I would guess it may well do. Now I could say sorry, doesn't mean I am apologising for being racist, I am apologising for offended you.

If you called me an idiot simply on the basis of what race I was then of course it's racist.

Posting something doesn't always necessarily imply that they mean it or that they hold those beliefs.

I don't find any of those generalisation to be racist..... they are just statements.
To say that Indians like to haggle on the price is not racist - it's just the way it is.
Racism surely is something that causes discrimination of a group or race of people.
To say "Indians like to haggle" is just a statement. To then refuse to deal with Indians because of that statement is what makes it racist isn't it ?

Is the film title "White Men Can't Jump" racist ?

"Cardiff fans are scum". "The Welsh are Sheepshaggers". ?

It's easy to focus on nonsense innit.......

Even saying that people are good at something can be deemed racist can't it ?(just playing devils advocat here):
"Black people are better sprinters than white people". It's fine to say that right ? How about "Black people can swing from branches better than white people" - is that offensive ? If so - why ?

Then could you give me an example of what you would consider a racist comment?
