The fishing industry in Hull has played a major part in the economy and defence of this country since the mid 19th Century and through two World Wars. Even during the Falklands Conflict in 1982, Hulls last remaining trawlers were used for mine sweeping duties.

St Andrews Dock first opened in 1883. Originally intended to be a coal dock, it was almost immediately turned over to the exclusive use of the fishing industry.

    How cool would this be?

Instead we have ****ing B&Q, what a load of ****bags we've had on the council over the years.
If the people of Hull weren't so apathetic they would have risen up and voted these totally useless councillors out of office years ago. That video is excellent and it makes me very angry.

I spend all my early working life on that dock, brought back many happy memories. To have it transformed into something like that would be a fitting tribute to the people that lived and died over the year.

Lets hope that someone takes up the basic concept. There is still a small area of water that could form the main area.

I complained about it at the time. Unfortunately the only voice I had was letters to the HDM. I don't recall much opposition at all.
Likewise the building of a shopping centre in Princes Dock.
A proud city led by donkeys.
And they still haven't built a decent memorial to all those lads lost at sea.

I can't disagree with any of the comment on here; it's all such a damn shame.

That waterfront is some of the best views in the North of England. People pay a Premium for south facing water view.

    What do we do?

Build a car park and a Halfords!

so what did you want instead, housing that nodody else could see from? at least there's public access.

do you know how far away halfords and b&q are from that lords building? there's a ton of room in front of it and nothing in the way to stop the stuff in the video happening.

or perhaps you'd have preferred some other half-baked scheme do be implemented before anyone could come up with a decent plan?

Vicky Dock is not much better. Another superb waterfront location but Terry and June suburban housing development.

Lack of vision, lack of expertise, lack of commercial nouse.
