No mate, but I saw the Bunnymen , along with Spear of Destiny , Sisters of Mercy , Redskins , Chameleons etc at York Festival in 1984. My first festival. Still got the programme . A load of us went from Spiders
Looks ace but as I was only a wee nipper I couldn’t attend. Futurama 1 (1979) looks better (to me) though Echo & The Bunnymen Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark Adam And The Ants Public Image Ltd. The Fall Scritti Politti Hawkwind The Only Ones The Teardrop Explodes Joy Division Cabaret Voltaire A Certain Ratio The Monochrome Set Void The Invaders Spizz Energi Punishment of Luxury Prag Vec Spizz Energy Punilux
I was at Futurama 2 & York Racecourse Festival.I remember St Georges Hall was a right mess at the back-a mixture of spilled drink and other bodily fluids.I went to see the Chameleons at Fruit on Monday. They were performing Script of the bridge.Did anyone go to see Siouxsie & the Banshees supported by The Cure at the City Hall in about 1979?
I was in attendance. Saw City hammer Sheffield at Gooseberry Park then train to station and all aboard the Leeds train. PiL topping the bill- came on about 0200 BST long after the rest. Joy Division stole the show and opened up with Atrocity Exhibition. Punilux played a blinder. Had a weekend ticket (tenner?) but came home Sunday teatime as was sick of it all by then. Big dark cavernous hall, no daylight, no air, no refreshments, no seats, smokey, sweaty and full of the Great Unwashed both literally and figuratively. Wish I'd paid more attention but it had been a long long day with the blunts and I was ****ed.
Ay-I went to Futurama 2 and York Racecourse Festival.I went to see the Chameleons at Fruit on Monday night. They were still great.Did anyone go to Siouxsie & the Banshees supported by The Cure at City Hall in about 1979?
did 1 but not 2, and yes to the banshees with the cure and the associates at city hall. saw siouxsie last year at yoko ono's meltdown festival, and she's still spellbinding
Rainbow, Judas Priest, ( who did'nt get a song on the album that was released ) Scorpions, Saxon and i think 3 others. Fairly sure the were 7 bands in total.
It sounds like a testing but well memorable mixture: seeing an early PiL or JD between UP and Closer certainly is worth turning one's eye turrets to - then writing about it. I’ve read elsewhere about the trying nature of the event, probably hard to fathom for those who didn't attend gigs in the 70s. No refreshments as in nothing to buy to drink at all? I assume you could pass in pass out? Maybe that was a regular occurrence back then? I remember being shocked at not being able to smoke at a Morrissey gig in the 90s. Tenner sounds relatively expensive too.
Ah dont remember that one. Was it Graham Bonnet singing for Rainbow? Seen Saxon quite a few times and Judas Priest.
Yeah you could get in and out with your card/pass. please log in to view this image Group of us Hull fellows went- some for opening time, others arriving after the routing of Sheffield. Unknown Hardships rather than Pleasures: a hard sticky floor with beer, sweat. Don't recall anyone from Hull being prepared with sleeping bags etc. No sleep that night too much noise in the hall. Indoor festival ? No accommodation, money or preparation on our part. Tenner for the weekend. May have been £4 for one night of £7.50 the weekend can't remember. Back then a Lp cost £2.99 or £3.99. please log in to view this image This is the way, step inside.
Had to some googleing, long time age. Was a bit pissed off cause it was not ronnie james dio, it was bonnet. Not good enough. Then a little later went to see Black Sabath at brid spa and low and behold no ozzy osborne but ronnie james dio. Not good enough. Funny old world
