Seems to me the only stumbling block now is the fee and somehow I don`t see us willing to pay £12m.

Think we 'll get our man, maybe we'll waive our henderson/mignolet add-ons, just a thought?

Sky Sports understands five Premier League clubs are battling it out to land former Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis.

Gomis is one of the most sought-after free agents in the transfer market after seeing out his contract at Lyon.

The 28-year-old is being chased by a number of clubs across Europe, having scored over 100 goals in Ligue 1 during his career.

The likes of West Ham, Sunderland and Swansea are all thought to be admirers of Gomis and the player has been in England to talk to interested clubs this week.

Gomis' representative, Willie McKay, has confirmed he has spoken to five clubs about the striker and that one club in particular are making a concerted effort to land the France international.

"I am speaking to five Premier League clubs about Bafetimbi and it is no surprise there is a lot of interest in him as he is one of the best free agents out there," McKay told Sky Sports.

"I am speaking to one very ambitious chairman of an ambitious club and they are very keen to sign him and Bafetimbi will go to a club who proves they really want him.

"The club who are really pushing for him have held a long-term interest in him and made a big bid for him before when he was under contract at Lyon."

    ----------

    Firstly...no he isnt (Drogba/Eto'o etc)

Secondly An ambition chairman suggests David Gold?

Thirdly the club with a long interest are surely Newcastle? cant see them paying him 100k a week

Sorry if this has beeen covered -

But potentially Borini could now be for sale due to us buying Lambert.

Would he be someone you guys would want on a permanent, he clearly has passion for your club.

With Lambert coming in (although I rate Borini higher) he gives us a completely different option. Whereas Borini's style is somewhere in-between Sturridge's and Suarez's (but not to their standard). This probably means it now pushes Borini to 4th in our pecking order, with Aspas 5th. I can't see anyone being interested in Aspas as he's shocking, so for us to gather some extra spending money for other positions, I believe Borini may be released.

So the question is, would you want him, and what would you think would be a good price for both clubs to strike a deal?

I'd love him, I'd go to max £8million up top, and maybe £10million with add-ons, but they would be strong performance related add-ons.

    50 games, 50 goals etc.

You owe us a few bob off Jordan & Mig so I can see a deal for sure, makes sense, and Fabio clearly bought into the club.

    Can see it happening now.

Sunderland have been credited with having an interest in St Patrick's Athletic winger Christopher Forrester. The 21-year-old was first linked with the club during Martin O'Neill's reign, after O'Neill went to scout him in person play in 2011.

    According to the Daily Mail, Sunderland are still interested in the winger, with scouts due to attend St Pat's game against Derry City tonight. Forrester has been compared in style with Wes Hoolahan and has caught the headlines recently after scoring an incredible lob against Drogheda;

Gus Poyet has rekindled his interest in Argentina midfielder Ever Banega – and could make a personal check on him at the World Cup.

Valencia playmaker Banega was linked with a move to Wearside in the January transfer window, although ultimately he went on to make a loan move back to his homeland with Newell’s Old Boys.

But the Chronicle understands that Poyet remains a big admirer of Banega – who is set to represent his country in this summer’s World Cup – and the 25-year-old is on his summer wishlist.

It would be a major coup if Poyet could land a player who has been included in Argentina boss Alejandro Sabella’s World Cup squad, but Banega’s involvement in the competition could provide the Black Cats boss with an opportunity to see him in action at close quarters.

Poyet will be on duty as part of ITV’s punditry team in Brazil, and among the games the broadcaster will be screening are Argentina’s clashes against Iran in Belo Horizonte on June 21, and against Nigeria in Porto Alegre four days later.

Banega is about to enter the final year of his contract at Valencia, and the La Liga outfit is keen to offload him this summer rather than risk losing him for nothing on a Bosman free transfer in 12 months’ time.

Sunderland face competition for his signature however, with some reports claiming that Manchester United and Everton are also monitoring the situation.

Banega’s agent Jonathan Hope confirmed this week that his client is wanted by three Premier League clubs

And Sunderland are believed to be among the trio to have made contact with the player’s camp to sound them out over a deal.

“We have had a lot of interest in the Argentine international,” said Hope.

“I confirm that I am speaking personally with three clubs who have expressed their intention to sign the player. “He is a class player and he is only 25 years old.” Poyet has already made two signings this week, having agreed Bosman deals with West Bromwich Albion defender Billy Jones and Wigan midfielder Jordi Gomez that will take effect on July 1.

Gomez is the newest addition, and the Spaniard says he is delighted to have joined the Wearsiders and to have the chance to work under Poyet.

He said: “I’m really happy to be here and to be joining such a big club as Sunderland, and I am ready for this new challenge in my career.

“I was in the Premier League four years with Wigan before we got relegated, but I am delighted to be back there with Sunderland.

“Gus Poyet is a very good manager and he did a very good job last year, so I am very happy to be working with him.

“He has good ideas and I like the way he wants his team to play.

“I think my style will suit that.”

Gomez has played at the Stadium of Light for the Latics, but he is looking forward to having the home support on his side in future.

He said: “I have played at Sunderland before and I know what the support is like, and the way that they help their team.

“I think last season they played a big part in the good results the team got at the end of the season to stay in the Premier League.”

Liverpool's expected signing of Rickie Lambert for £4million from Southampton could lead to Fabio Borini leaving Anfield for Sunderland, where the Italian forward spent last season on loan. (The Times)
