I fail to see any racism in the term "Hillbilly" certainly not in the class of the usual suspects use of "Inbred" references when aimed at those of us from Norfolk!
"Racist"???? Hilarious Diddums, have I upset you darling? Bless you, I thought you hillbillies were made of stronger stuff
All you need to do is a little search and you will find that it is an offensive term that some consider a racially derogatory term.....does it offend me......not really.......does that mean that after being informed of its possible offensive connotations that to continue to use the term is acceptable......that's for your forum to decide....but I'm sure if other potentially racist term had of been used you would have taken a different view.............so I guess you see it as acceptable prejudice..............
Here's an idea that you may well find offensive hillbilly - why don't you **** off back to your own board and stay there? None of you lot have anything particularly constructive to say, you certainly don't have anything funny to say, and all you actually do is annoy the **** clean out of me - and I'm sure I'm not alone. Seriously, get a life and do something better with your time You can close the thread now if you like, I'm done
I can only say I have NEVER seen the term "Hillbilly" used as a racist slur! The only thing it suggests to me is someone who enjoys lively country music! I guess that makes me a "Hillbilly" too? I'm cool with that!
Can I just be allowed to second this well thought out and well articulated response before finishing with this thread as well.
Diddums, have I upset you darling? Bless you, I thought you 'insert offensive stereotype here' were made of stronger stuff.
As with many things its all to do with intension and context..........just out of interest who do you listern to???

WCP, my all-time favourite country star has to be Gentleman Jim Reeves, but I like such a diverse selection of country ballads, through blue grass and onto skiffle! My tastes refuse to be pigeon holed!
