I wouldn't call them inept for selling Rickie, as he was going to go anyway. Still, I have a strong hunch it's still the right word.
What's the problem ? We have the worlds best Managers and available players knocking on our door..................
Christ, people are getting very dramatic aren't they? It's just like reading Saintsweb, how about you wait until the end of the transfer window before making these hysterical posts?
It's unravelling so fast it's a disaster.. What 'high class manager/coach' wants to join a club involved in a fire sale.
I'm not one to use the "no smoke without fire" argument, because frankly it's a bollocks saying in both the figurative and literal sense (put too much oil in a hot frying pan and see what happens). But still, there is a whole lot of smoke right now. I'm willing to be patient and wait and see what happens next, but it's not looking great right now.
Get Koeman in and a couple of clever signings, and all of a sudden we'll all suddenly feel a whole lot better about life.
We will have to wait until the end of the window to judge, even until the end of next season. But yes I feel we're a laughing stock atm.
But aren't you pleased that the ineptitude is a collaborative process, rather that the dictatorial competence that preceded them?
May I remind you that when the news broke that Pochittono being wanted by spurs we had not a word from our board. The media went with stories about what a great manager he would make for Spurs. There is some rumoured interest on our part in Steve McClaren and the press report with an immediate statement from Derby County saying Saints can keep their hands off him as he is going nowhere.
Pedant alert; you need a fire under the pan. Even if you have an electric hob, someone somewhere is burning fossil fuels to provide the power. Best thing to do in the event of a fire? You can always try pissing on it.
That's fair. I feel the same way. Also, there's several levels of anger/depression/conspiracy. It's one thing to be pessimistic about our ability to keep players and about our chances the next season. It's another level up to say that the board is incompetent, rather than because the Premier League is rigged and any team like ours is going to be raided for our best players. And then another level beyond that to say that the board is actively malevolent and asset stripping the club. I'm worried and a little depressed right now, although not so much about Lambert just in general due to the offers we're getting for players and the fact it seems many may want to leave. I'm still open-minded about the rest. The board might indeed be awful or corrupt, but they also might be powerless against the forces of football. We're not the first team this has happened to, and we won't be the last.
Give me competence any day, dictatorial or otherwise, over rank incompetence. A smooth talking American Wordsmith who is totally out of his depth alongside the very innocent and naive Ms Leibherr do not inspire me in the least. They do not know what has hit them and even worse they don't know what to do about it.
You can definitely create heat without fire. Unless you count the sun as fire, in which case you are annoying and I don't like you. Edit: Friction! Friction creates heat without fire!
We don't know this is an inept board yet. They've made some mistakes, no doubt, but could anyone have kept hold of these players? Shouldn't we judge them on their "high calibre" manager and what he is given to spend?
Don't think saying the board is inept is in any way 'over the top'. We have had grand statements about quality candidate's queing up for the manager job, and talk of players leaving the club only on our terms but apart from that there has been a deafening silence which speaks volumes about their intentions for the future of the club. Doesn't smell good to me?
If you want Ralph & co to talk everyday, then they will just say the same thing every single day and every fan will ignore them. They can't win at the moment. I agree they could learn a lot from the past week and done things differently, but probably would have been exact same outcome with Poch off & the players off regardless. I can't think of a player in recent years at a club outside the top 6 big teams who has openly turned down a move to them. Can you?
