Pretty sad about Sagna but it's not the end of the world. We need to replace as quickly as possible and I am glad it hasn't been drawn out. Gives us time to get a replacement.

so he wants to be a Benchwarmer at City then. City seems to be the graveyard of choice for when players decide they don't want to be first choice anymore and are happy to be ignored or loaned out, or eventually sold on at huge loss.

please add to my list of players gone to waste at City:

    Wright-Phillips, Bridges, Johnson, Adebayor,

One thing Sagna did right up until the final minute of his final game was try for us, so I'll give him that.
But, the £90k a week we offered wasn't considered enough and he's gone for an extra £40k a week, what can't you do with £4.5m a year that you can do with £6.5m ?
One thing's for certain, no-one can apportion any blame on the club for losing another player to the oil money....

Bigger house and even bigger swimming pool? But yes I agree, how much is enough? But that is the nature of human beings, you give them one mountain of gold and they will want another. No matter how many rooms you have in a house, you can only sleep in one...

The money thing is a bit different for footballers tho. Their career finishes in their 30's. Most of us will have to work well into our 60's to be able to afford to retire, so a couple of million extra is a huge amount to him which he needs to fund the rest of his life. Again, most of us will see our wages rise as we progress through our career, this is his last chance before his wages decrease vastly once he isn't playing any more. It's totally understandable that this is what he wants to do.

What rubbish. On £90k a week he will receive £4.7m per year. So he probably takes home £3m per year (if he pays all his tax). That alone, after one year, would sort most of us for the rest of our lives, but he has been earning similar amounts for 7-10 years. If he is not financially secure (even without investing in anything other than a bank) then he's an idiot. It is simply greed and prestige that makes them strive for even more money, not to secure their future.

And why should he retire in his 30's? There are other jobs that he could do after football - coaching, TV. He won't be short of capital to invest in property etc.

It's the type of life he's accustomed to. I'm sure if he retired now he'd have enough to live more comfortably than I will for the rest of his life, but I'd imagine he wants to be a bit more comfortable than I am. The point is exactly as you said "3m per year...would sort most of us for the rest of our lives." He isn't most of us, he's an elite athlete who has a career which ends in his 30's. Yes he can coach, do TV, invest in property, but there's no guarantee of jobs in those, or a return on that. There is a guarantee of a lot of cash if he signs a lucrative contract now to utilise his biggest selling point while he is still capable of it.

I'd do it. Being a footballer has a very limited lifespan, of which he's coming to the end. Why shouldn't he go all out for as much cash as he can? He's got the rest of his life to look forward to earning nowhere near as much as he does now.

Yep, and that's where the greed comes in. To say he is not already secure is absurd. What drives them to get even more money is greed, not lack of security. I don't blame him for that, many of us would do the same, but call it as it is.

All true, but it is still greed. I didn't say he should live off the proceeds of one year - I said we could - but he's had 10 years of fabulous wages. Enough to secure his future by anyone's standards.

I'm with you on this one. The guy is a millionaire easy, and if he doesn't blow the money in some way, then he could easily retire now and live life comfortably and in a very good way. Us normal people have to work hard for a living and then we get paid just enough for the odd luxury. I just don't get where people say that they have shorter life spans so need shed loads more, when they already have a huge amount. He will earn more than us many times over for 10 years than we will in over 50 years.

10 years of fabulous wages, endorsements, sponsorships etc etc etc. The guy is set for life at the swankiest level if he chose to retire and do feck all work for the rest of his days. There's still plenty for him to do though focusing solely around football be it punditry, management, coaching or whatever. If that bores him he could even get a normal job like the rest of us poor gits should he want to keep busy and have a change of scenery!

I thank him for all he's done but I'm disappointed he's chosen City.

Have to agree with SpursDisciple here, this is a move based on greed and self satisfaction. At Arsenal he was a guaranteed starter in a team that had just won a major trophy and mounted a serious title challenge. Arsenal had offered him a new contract, but he chose to take the money instead by joining a rival.

I'm grateful for everything that he did for us, but the manner of this move and the club he's chosen leaves a sour taste.

What's wrong with the manner of the move? He's out of contract and free to go where he wishes. He's shown plenty of loyalty to the club during their barren spell - he could have left at any point as he's consistently been one of the best RB in the league for many years.
Arsenal could have offered him one a near deal a year or more ago and didn't. In addition, it's widely reported that he hasn't had a pay rise since 2008.

Sagna has treated Arsenal extremely respectfully throughout all of this. By all means be miffed if he goes to City, but the "manner of the move" is he's a free agent, and he's decided to move on. Absolutely nothing wrong with that.

I think that's the sticking point for most fans. I'd be very surprised at anyone who sincerely thought Sagna dealt with this poorly. I think most of their frustration is down to him joining City. They realise we've lost a very solid player to a huge rival. The manner he went about it though epitomised everything I liked about the man. He did it quietly and, as far as you can with these things, with class. He could have forced a move earlier, acted like a tw*t in games or gone to the papers repeatedly. He did none of these things and played his entire contract to the best of his abilities.

I'll really miss him at Arsenal and have to applaud him for his attitude.

Just...you know, hope he plays like sh*te for Citeh <whistle>
