Liverpool clearly want all 3, unlikely it will happen. But perhaps a domino effect would start if one went through.....I just think there is more to this Lambert deal than meets the eye.

How about £1m for every penalty scored at the world cup?

Well, another opportunity for everyone to go bonkers. Let's keep calm. Let's remember that Lambert cost us £1 million and we have had our money's worth in spades. If the board are happy to sell, I don't begrudge him a move if that's what he wants- but it seems a strange choice for Liverpool.
In any case, in business you sometimes have to sell before you can buy. But why would this be rushed through before a WC? That's weird really.

After the initial shock this was happening, ive give it a bit more thought. How much HAS Rickie been worth to us? Not IS. £80M? His goals taken us from league 1 to the Premier League. Without him we wouldn't have got this far this quickly, that is for sure.

What he's done for Saints far outweighs any transfer fee we may get for him. Far outweighs anything Shearer did for the club, yet he is looked at fondly.

Even if it was four million Rickie went for, think we got a pretty good ****ing deal overall for the one million we spent on the guy.

So, we got our monies worth so we should just let him leave, is that really the general consensus? I think we've done our compassionate transfer quota for this year already. If he goes, we should ask how much is the clubs soul worth, but I have a feeling little miss Kathy will be little us know that soon enough.

Yes guys but we need to replace him with an equally adept striker and someone who can assist as well as he did. Certainly a lot more than £4m. We are buggered

Pleased things have calmed down a little on this thread after talks of asset stripping etc

I always remember Rickie Lambert banging in a hat-trick for us against Watford and then saying how he was looking forward to going to Wembley the next day to watch Liverpool in the league cup final.
Then when he joined the England squad he was like an excited school boy to play with Steven Gerrard.

The bloke is a mad keen Liverpool fan and so are all his family and you can't pin this transfer against the Southampton owners. Any other club and i'm sure Rickie would never push to leave, but Liverpool? You can't hold players at gunpoint. The timing could not be worse for the club and I wish it would happen after the world cup at least, but somethings you can't stop.

Pretty irrelevant seeming as we are not weighing up the success of his transfer, but instead whats best for us now

I don't want him to go, don't get me wrong. However if he really does want to go then good luck to him and thanks.

Last thing I expected after getting back from the pub, just caught up with the comments. Piri Weepu has kept my smile muscles going and it was needed. Looking as though it's going to happen so thank you Rickie for all your work since you joined us, one of our most solid and dependable players I have seen for a while. To end his career (surely) at his home team must be too good to resist and a very surprising, from his Bristol Rovers days (no offence), turn in his footballing life. Hard for us Southampton supporters to take and most of all I really hope the papers don't turn out to be right about all the rest. I can imagine their smug, desperate little faces amongst their slowly dieing industry, patting themselves on their back.

On a brighter note, if we can keep more than 3-4 of our immense first team, that has seemly rocked the whole of English football to it's core, then hopefully we can build on last season with some keen additions and finish 7th. Yes I am drunk. Cheers

Anyone else remember back in Feb/March after Osvaldo went on loan we all thought we'll need another forward for the start of next season as it was a bit of a slog to the end with only Lambert/Rodriguez/Gallagher.
Well, we're seriously looking at having only Gallagher available on August 16th if we exclude: Osvaldo (surely leaving also); Mayuka (not Prem standard); Sharp (not Prem standard).
Hope the new gaffer likes playing 4-6-0 with a false '9'.... or we sign a couple of worldies :emoticon-0116-evilg
