The GFA have announced two friendlies in July that will be sure to give Gibraltar a post-Island Games challenge, against Cardiff City, and then Rochdale.

The game against Rochdale will be played on the 10th July at the Victoria Stadium, with a 7:30 pm kick off

The game against Cardiff City will be played on the 12th July in Jerez, also with a 7:30 pm kick off.

Regardless of the players both teams bring over, these matches should provide a great test for the national side after the Island Games which starts on Saturday 25th June.

Gibraltar dont really have a national side because Spain veto any move to allow Gibraltar into FIFA or Uefa.

What's the standard like there ?

Would have thought that the City team would be mostly youngsters.

I was just trying to explain why you havent heard of the national side, its because Spain wont allow them to have one but I guess politics is not allowed on a football forum.
The GFA will give everything they have got but they dont train together that often and they are not in the least bit technical (sorry Vince!) Its just go out and enjoy the football against the pros.
All my lad wants is a shirt signed by the city team! If the GFA can hold the bluebirds to 5 goals it will be an achievement, however they are used to the heat and summer temperatures in Jerez are high so if we have a team full of fair skinned scots who knows what might happen!!!

Fair play to them, hope the matches against Rochdale & City goes well for them.

I am just glad we are not playing them at the Victoria stadium (All Weather pitch) There isnt a blade of grass on the place. Spent a couple of years in Gib in the early 80's and remember Jimmy Syrill (sorry about spelling) his then very good Notts County team, and i remember overhearing one of the coaches saying 'I assumed it was a grass pitch' well cant remember the cricket score, also remember watching England sem pro team playing Gib, good memories although a little boring, as the border was shut the whole time i was there. By the way their football standards werent up to much, as the RN, and Army used to give them a good pasting at regular intervals.

I don't think any of the 1st team will be there, maybe a couple of trialists and the youth team.

While we are on the subject of friendly games & travelling overseas, why are Bluebirds not touring Asia this summer? Isn't that the normal thing to do when sponsored from another country? or do you think it is too soon after the deal to arrange it?

Maybe it's something to do with the owners wanting to be associated with success - a natural enough human weakness.

You can bet your life if we'd made the Prem, we would be trumpeted around SE Asia this summer.

Not knocking the owners, just a fact of (business) life.
