Right guys, as it is now cricket season and I know some of you out there must be big cricket fans. But, can someone tell me what is the point of it in this country. Whenever they show county cricket there are about 5 people watching it.The one day matches and 20/20 are there to be a bit more exciting but, they are always rained off or shortened to a few overs each or worst of all are finished by the D/L Method (which I am convinced no one understands). I sort of get the 20/20 where it is a bit of a slogfest and you can have a pint in a day night match. Maybe if we had good weather in this country I can see the point of it. But teams seem to have more games called off than are actually played. So please you cricket lovers tell me why there is a point to it and for those who loathe it any other reasons why it is pointless in this country
No time for summer sports , too much painting , general maintenance and being a good father , husband and companion to watch sport after the footie finishes . When's the World Cup starting again
4/5 Day cricket is your bread and butter cricket and is essential as it prepares players for International Test matches. Yes it's often played in front of 5 men and a dog, but if you've got a week off work and plenty of spare time a good match in fine weather is like reading a good book with plenty of twists and turns and hopefully a thrilling finish. On top of that you can have plenty of beer, fresh air, a chat with your friends and get a nice tan. One day cricket pays the bills. One innings each (the less overs per match the more of a slogfest it is). Like with any good sport, the drama unfolds throughout the day and you are more likely to see a spectacular finish than in a 4/5 dayer. A good day at the cricket is outstanding entertainment. Rain? Who cares - there's always a bar handy
I fully agree with PGF on this and if I had the time 4 consecutive days of cricket is not only relaxing but can be enthralling and absorbing. As Swiss Tony would say watching county championship cricket is like making love to a beautiful woman. You have to appreciate its going to take some time and you have to play yourself in and hope it doesn't finish too early!
Haven't you lot heard of the Beer Tent ? I used to have a season for Glam at St Helens . Never saw a ball bowled on a Sunday afternoon ! Great times !
Played lots of cricket school many years ago and was School Captain. I also played in adult teams when I was just 11 years old so I wasn't half bad. But bloody hell I can't watch it. Boring as all hell. Sorry.
