No you are not, the text before your point goes against this. You are saying I want to place emphasis on this point. You said it yourself you just went with who you agreed most with, not on everything.
Bollocks, proof? I don't believe in any of it but I'd defend anyone's rights to have those beliefs. Well no RE in school that'll raise a generation of understanding tolerant people then. Thank **** you aren't in charge. Honestly one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. It's about understanding all faiths not indoctrination into Christianity
I didn't vote in the elections and if I had done it wouldn't of been for UKIP but I certainly won't judge anybody who did vote for them. Hearing politicians say stuff like it is important we listen to the electorate to convince them to come back to us... you should listen to the electorate ALL THE TIME! So I can understand why people are disillusioned with the mainstream parties. I also share many of these people's concerns over immigration. Reading about girls being killed by their families in Pakistan for 'looking at boys' and 'getting married without permission' or about polio re-emerging in these parts because the Taliban attempts to block vaccination on religious grounds makes me want these stone aged people as far away from my country as possible. Hope that doesn't make me a racist but if it does so be it.
The tooth Fairy has never let me down! Labours whole economic policy is based upon a fairy story from the brothers Grim!
I know it's the mirror but this was interesting http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/12-things-would-happen-ukip-3487075
They blocked vaccination because the CIA were using them to hunt bin Laden so that's the fault of the Americans (shock)
I'm saying the easiest way to fight intolerance is understanding. Look at the curriculum for RE it's a lot more complicated than God, Bible etc it does teach respect, tolerance and understanding. So yes I do believe that the risk of intolerance etc would go up if you removed RE (not that it's actually called that anymore) from school's
RE isn't anything to do with faith schools that's a whole different kettle of fish and I don't think we should have faith schools. The two terms are not interchangeable, if you mean indoctrination in faith schools say so RE in state schools is completely different discussion
Exactly, the people who believe in Gods, flying llamas that spit fire out of their armpits etc need to understand its not real. You can do it through teaching kids the sciences correctly, and teach RE as a cultutral historical lesson, which I'm sure it probably is. The faith schools should be phased out.
I think you'll find the references were supposed to be faith schools after I inadvertently said RE instead of faith teaching sometime ago.
I went to a single faith junior school, then at open senior school I was, rather strangely, exempt from RE. (Used to sit in the library like a leper). Yet I still learned respect and tolerance without that, that's all I'm saying.
Some of the problems with getting rid of faith schools is the c of e schools they're not indoctrinal in the way that Catholic schools are for example but still heavily involved in running the schools. Often it's not to do with driving the faith per se but a mutually beneficial arrangement that helps with governing the school. You'd then come across large problems dealing with that from an infrastructure point of view. I think if you're going to allow faith schools they should have to teach about other faiths. I don't know without looking it up whether that is a legal requirement (I believe it used to be) or not if not it certainly should be as a compromise.
Perhaps you would've done anyway because you're a good person, your parents did a good job, good role models etc the point is I'm not saying removing would cause intolerance everywhere but it could certainly increase the risk. I would also largely like to see a secular society with minimal faith, on the balance the world would probably be a better place for it.
Although, I'm fairly sure this can be taught through other means, perhaps in Economics, I wonder how the kids would turn out then.
All I have said is that the best person for the job should get it regardless. I certainly do not advocate positive discrimination in favour of migrants are you suggesting that I should employ a less able local than a superior polish worker? Of course the uk government should look after it's citizens but a large proportion of the eu immigrants vote here and pay the very taxes that the government spends on us all. If you look at our history we have had wave after wave of migration into the uk from the empire and colonies and now from the eu. We seem to have survived all the other waves of immigration by a policy of tolerance and ultimate assimilation on the side of both the indigenous and immigrant populations. For me this tolerance is one of our great strengths and the rise of ukip concerns me
