He was talking about offering him a new contract a couple of months ago. I hope he's seen how very wrong that would be.
brad smith is not that good and honestly i'd rather look at jack robinson this preseason to see if the lads learned anything on his loan than smith. i think yeah cissohko was poor but smith? nah no way does he deserve a first team slot anyway we can all agree on johnson
Well I wouldn't want us to shell out 20million on Lallana to start with, but lets be honest, the guy had a brilliant season, wouldn't have got into the TOTY otherwise, and being used the league is a bonus. so that's a price I could take. Completely different story with Moreno, its his first season in topflight and he's still far from the finished product. Besides do we really need to spend a huge portion of our budget on a position which isn;t really one of our most pressing need None of those players you mention are CL material mate. Johnson is rubbish and past it, really like Flannos passion and no nonsense approach, but his obvious lack of pace can really hurt us when we are up against the best sides in Europe. He doesn't offer much going forward either. Same with Kelly and Wisdom, they lack pace and are more suited playing at CB.
Robsinson had a pretty average season at blackpool. Not too excited about his potential, Id still like to see how he does in preseason. Brad smith though is highly rated in the youth setup. I do follow some of the u21 games, and he's one of those players that always stands out. He's got some serious pace and works very hard on both ends. Inglethorpe and BR have spoken highly of him in the past. Given the opportunity he could be a very useful player for us.
I think Flanno has done more than enough to be given a chance to make RB his own for this coming season. I'll be very disappointed if Johnson remains first pick. Jones needs some experience beyond the U21s though and he won't get that here, a loan might be good for him. I think Robinson's time is up though.
he is ok but i just think there are a few guys like him that just aint up to the standard. the real top top youths right now are through.. teix is the last of the age group and i expect its 16 year old like sinclair and rossiter to look to. in short i think, not bad but not lfc stanard. robinson could come back toughened up. my truble with him was bulk, he had none, positioning, he scared me and decision making. i think preseason is all about momentum.. get in stay in, show improvement. then we can see. i don't think either boy are quite up to it but injuries hve blocked both too.
The same concerns were shared for Carragher not many years ago, not technical, no pace, not exactly big for a defender either...not saying Flanagan will turn out like Jamie did, but he's at least deserved a chance to see if he can. He's grown immensely in the last year and might well continue to do so with more game time. I'm happier with him playing LB/RB than anyone else in our squad right now.
At this moment in time, Flano is our best RB and I'd have absolutely no concerns should he remain there.
so carragher proved to have other attributes. If flanagan can prove to have more attributes (even more than now) as in learning more game reading and such yeah fair enough... Could i ask however... slightly different tack.... IF carragher didn't switch to CB do you think he'd have lasted? I think others would have forced him out. flanagan has to give more, i'd not put him down for no pace, but i think he's development plan now would be to just settle into consistent performances in defence but to give more in attack while being capable and eager to get back. like it or no i think nobody out of wisdom, flanagan or johnson has a shirt for sure. I think flanagan has built personal trust with rodgers, wisdom has shown more ability at derby but that's not on that same personal level and rodgers keeps saying johnson is great. 6 months ago i would have said that wisdom was not at all trusted by the manager and he didn't want to pick him... I think again preseason should wash this stuff out.... If a left full arrives i quite fancy that there will be a big fight fro RB slot but i'd not be shcoked to see johnosn play CL and flanagan start in the league early on.... i still think wisdom has more about him but we'll see cos there are mental questions
That's got absolutely no baring on the topic of conversation at all Carragher was never a FB, sort of confirmed by the man him self with his "FBs are failed wingers or CBs".
Liverpool have offered £16m for Sevilla's Spanish left-back Alberto Moreno, 21. Midfielder Suso, 20, could be included as a makeweight in the deal.
He might have done, but the fullback role has changed a lot since Carra played there (2004 maybe?) and I don't think he'd make it in that position now if he was coming through. I think Flanagan has one other great attribute which keeps him in Rodgers' plans; he's a very accomplished passer of the ball. Awareness comes with age/experience, it always has, that's why players continue to improve until their legs go and only a few remain in the game after that. Jamie played a lot at RB/LB because we had Henchoz and Hyypia at CB (amongst others) who were established, but the experience he gained just by playing alongside them would have brought him along no end. Whilst I don't think young Jon will ever move to CB, I think he needs to be playing as it's the only way to improve. Players don't magically have experience and positional awareness, they have to learn and we have to accept that mistakes will be made on the way. I think he learns from his mistakes well.
As well as passing Flanagan has an inspiring work ethic, great passion and loves the club and sport. He is strong to. Flanagan is a well rounded player.
No one else taking this seriously? I'd class Sky Sports as a pretty reliable source. If its true in any shape or form, we have officially lost the plot.
