    Heres why:

Alan Smith: Would you leave for the championship while on 60k a week up in the premiership? would you move to another company for a 50% salary cut?

Newcastle are reportedly prepared to pay 30k a week which x by 52 = 1.560000 to send him somewhere else. For that type of money It wouldnt make sense, because we'd have to put him on a 12 months contract because we couldnt afford to pay his 60k a week come next season.

Evening post quote; Smith is believed to have received expressions of interest in his services from the Premier League, the Championship and several foreign clubs and he will consider a raft of proposals when Newcastle start their pre-season schedule on July 4

We've been linked with him since january and we have still yet to hear Alan Smith himself state he wants in at Elland Road. When Craig Bellamy went to cardiff he came straight out and wanted to play for them.

On the other hand, my mate was presented with a players player of the year award and by eddie gray last week and he asked him about the 3 and he was told the sale of kasper was to fund smithies return.

But i still dont buy into it and for me cant see it happening. Papers/fans/club have all stated the obvious - But yet smithies agent nor smithy have stated into the media of his desire of coming home.

Woodgate - Cant see it happening for 1 reason - Injuries, when a fit woodgate is up for selection all the prem clubs would want a piece of him, unfortunately if he ends up in the championship it is simply because he wont get you more than 10 games a season. Strangely enough we have kissa who on his day is class and for me it seems silly to go for another highly paid darren anderton. Sick note as would all say just to please some of the faithful.

Bowyer - Birmingham city's best player last year! On a good wage and would have no problems finding another prem club. Its simple, hes fit, hes energetic and to look at him you'd think he was still in his twenties. Sorry no way jose!

If you were to combine wages etc of all these 3 you would assume that we could command some good fees for some talented players from either league 1 or the championship.

You dirty little bum bandit - I am Eddie Gray and I said nothing of the sort about the sale of casper funding smithies return. You have been enjoying "pillow talk" with your "pal" that aint true.

So Eddie Gray was telling random blokes about Kasper's sale last week ? Had Kasper been informed of this at the time ?

Woodgate is crocked, no point even considering him. Bowyer and Smith would both be good, but there's enough good and better players we could go for. If Smith wanted to come to Leeds, and the wages were right for us then consider it, but there's no point if he's expecting to keep his high wages.

Not sure what to make of that Newcastle United Mad story - that's a fan site, right, rather than an official club site?

He'd want a full time contract though. He turned down a pay and play deal from Spurs, so it's unlikely he'd except a pay and play on lower wages in a lower division.

Good article Monster, sadly I have to agree with you.

Smith would divide Elland Road but do a job, Bowyer sadly is probably too good for us (unless people look at his baggage) and woody would be a hell of a risk. If we signed Woody & both him & kissa are out we are back to square one.

Out of the three, it would be Bowyer for me <ok>

Speaking to my geordie mate he says Smithy his past it and can't run anymore,

He says he still tries as hard but is likely to get loads of bookings because hes a step behind what he used to be!

IMO Alex ferguson ruined him by moving him to a midfielder!

He won't take 10k a week and we already have Kisnorbo who's similar: made of glass but a bloody good natural defender. Don't need two of those players in my opinion, get someone like Danny Higginbotham in who'll be able to play across the back line and offers the experience but with less risk of injury.

Smith scored about 40 in 170 for Leeds by the way, not a superb record for a striker. You can see why he was moved.

Kissa maybe made of glass but you wouldnt like to get trapped in a lift with him!

Smithy was a good forward for us, good enough to get an England cap & score on his debut (wicked ball wiped in by Bowyer if I remember correctly?) but he went down hill & I think Midfield was the right place to put him in the end as he had the heart for a scrap.

I rate Smith up front as about effective as Noel Whelan was, we just got to cash in at the right (or wrong time considering we went down) time with Smudger.

Should have always been Keane/Viduka starting IMO <ok>
