But who said the hatred was just from reading the Qur'an? Foreign policy that harks back to the days of Empire is to blame too as you rightly say. For all the good we've done in Afghanistan (most locals would agree it's immeasurably better than under the Taliban) fact is it's cost our peoples' lives on the ground and we can't stay there forever because they are just biding their time. Pakistan really is behind it all of course, wanting secure territory.

As for Christians blowing up planes, the theory goes that the authorities in the U.S had a good idea that something was coming but 'allowed' it to happen so as to justify another foreign incursion. Whether it's true or not is another story - let's not go there - but only the more outlandish theories suggest non-Muslims actually flew the planes.
