So you were spending more money than you were making then? The season before as well you signed Torres, Babel, Lucas, Skrtel and Mascherano for more money than you recouped off players like Bellamy, Garcia and Cisse. How is that hitting rock bottom when you are still able to spend millions of pounds when you are in debt?
We sold Keane in January for £16m aswell, that wasn't reinvested. We sold Arbeloa for £3.5m and Sebastien Leto for £5m in the summer aswell.
muf How is the amount of money spent directly related to us being rock bottom? I don't understand your point, and liberally sprinkling it with expletives doesn't make it any clearer I'm afraid.
You tell me how you supposedly hit rock bottom? You blame the owners yet they still give you money to spend? You don't blame Benitez even though in his whole time spent at Liverpool he bought more dross than you can imagine. You blame Hodgson even though he inherited Benitez's awful team. Can you not except that with the players you had in 2008-09 you finished 7th because it was your level?
Don't attempt to try having a proper debate with these nitwits, they think they are the bestest team in the world because Paul Scholes has ginger hair and no other team has Paul Scholes and they said so.Man United fans live in fantasy land.
Rock bottom because a club with a proud tradition and ambition for the future- which hasn't finished lower than 8th place for almost 50 years- found itself floundering in the bottom half of the table with threats of relagation and liquidation over it's head, a huge amount of debt, and a decent but clueless manager incapable of turning it around. Now Utd fans understanding of rock bottom may be significantly worse than that, but that'll do for us.
But with the same players. We had sold Alonso and Arbeloa. So how is it the same players? SaintAnton.Well put.Thats exactly why I said we had hit rock bottom.
Liquidation? Your debt was half our debt and yet we were riding high. This is the worst debt we have ever encountered yet we have gone through the best 5 years the club has ever had. Shows the difference in the two sides doesn't it. The fact is if you are going to be liquidated you wouldn't have spent money you received on players going out on players coming in. Especially for over inflated prices on Aquilani and Johnson.
In the season you finished 7th you may have got rid of Alonso and Arbeloa but you filled them two positions with players who cost even more money than you sold them for. I don't see how that was the owners fault? The only person's fault that was, was Benitez.
I said "threat"- not actual. I was using it to explain why Liverpool supporters felt rock bottom- however you appear to know more about us than we do ourselves. Being a big name worldwide, we were always likely to attract a decent buyer, but the doubt lingers. As for your debt, I hope you feel the same way about it in a few years time. Utd, also being a big name, should be able to find a way through. Utd, a club with a similar tradition and pride as Liverpool, deserves to succeed. It doesn''t deserve some of its supporters though.
