From Nike's perspective, I just don't get the commercial thinking that went behind this. Shell out £45m to get the rights to make the kit. And then create a kit that the vast majority of fans won't buy because a) it looks like it's been designed by a bipoloar gibbon and b) next year we'll be getting our club's identity back with a kit that's truer to our heritage. So that's a year's worth of revenue they've stiffed.
Hungover, - No, but I do keep replaying the last 5 minutes of the game, and the next 30 or more as time allows. but I gather there are a few of us still doing that!
I agree with all of that. But that said, this is by far the worst home kit I've ever seen us wear in more than 30 years of going to Loftus Road. Absolutely bloody awful.
Interesting point about Nike promoting their off the shelf range, lost count of how many links I've seen to their webpage for 'create your own kit' style posts! They will shift a fair few of our shirts this season anyway and then next season when it reverts back to the thick hoops and Dennis away shirts people will be falling over each other to buy them up. People are saying it's bad business by Nike but it's actually very clever!
What post? I commented on the kit and said its crap, it is and I think the vast majority feel the same. I'm not angry with the club as I believe every team had to do it the first year, even international sides. At least we've got the shirt to blame if we go down.
Yeah creating a product that's universally loathed by the target market. Genius. It's only very clever if the shirts came from a defunct deal with Reading and were creating a fire hazard in a warehouse off the M4.
I don't think will shift much at all apart from those who buy every season and kids. Others will wait until next season when we have a proper one. Will anyone on here buy one?
The kit is literally everything most fans didn't want. It is basically like last season's reading kit. I actually don't like Nike anyway and I don't buy anything by them so I may not buy any at all. I actually think the away kit is nice but it looks like Milan and it's not really QPR. I don't mind them being creative with our away kits. I liked the light blue and navy away kit last season and I loved the orange away kit two years ago.
The away and third kits are from the 60s so its the best the club could have done with the choices. Its not the club, its Nike with their terrible kits I wouldn't want to play in.
Agreed. Makes no sense at all. Nike must surely want loads of shirts sold every year so why be so inflexible. Were they told how we'd react? The clubs should be saying to Nike - who's the customer?
Listen to tony's interview on the pod for explanation: http://playbackmedia.co.uk/podcasts/qprpodcast/ He didn't want these kits either, he wanted to keep the Caterham style 3rd kid. But sacrifices have to be made..! 45 mill isn't to be sniffed at
I'm not particularly fussed about this, but it appears a version of the Denis the Menace kit is available in the Nike catalogue........ <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"/> <title></title> </head> <body> <div class="page" title="Page 8"> <div class="section" style="background-color: rgb(0.000000%, 0.000000%, 0.000000%)"> </div> </div> </body> </html> Hmm, also appears that I am unable to post a picture of it, but I'm sure you can imagine it - exactly the same as the home kit but red and black. It's the Hoops III design.
The podcast interview with TF was very interesting, seems it takes 18 months or more to design a bespoke kit and as the contract was only signed less than 12 months ago there was insufficient time, hence the catalogue number for the first season......but hey £45m over 5 years is not to be sniffed at....
How can it take 18 months to design a bespoke kit? Especially when you consider it's a huge multi-billion pound organisation like Nike, and their main business is the designing and selling of kits. I'd say 18 days would be too long. I smell a rat
Was just gonna post the same......As Tony said on the interview......1 year is not a lot to sacrifice for the Nike deal we have in place. I for one, am at peace with that awful shirt for a year
I'm with you Staines. One of those times in life you take it on the chin for a better outcome in the long run.
Bosnian NT has the same problem with Adidas. But it seems it's just the way they do their business. In first year you must wear a stock kit no matter how much time they had before the release. They just won't give you a custom kit in your first year
