Mauricio Pochettino likened to Fleet Services: http://metro.co.uk/2014/05/28/mauri...w-spurs-manager-who-left-southampton-4741802/
I don't particularly blame him for leaving if he thinks Spurs are a better proposition, but the way he strung us all along for 6 months saying "don't worry about the future" and "I still have another year on my contract after this one" is pretty inexcusable if he intended to leave all along, and his token open letter was pretty full of it. There are plenty of legitimate grievances with how he has behaved.
"Harry Redknapp was Winchester South." Actually, I disagree. Harry Redknapp was a burger van on the A31.
Will Spurs give us any money for Poch? If not, why not? Keeping hold of our best players is key now. You'd have to be pretty incompetent to get relegated with our current squad. Ideally we'll want someone who can take over and stabilise us - a la Martinez taking over at Everton. However if the big clubs continue to asset strip us, then even with the proceeds from our trasnfer sales, we're going to be facing an uphill struggle to build a new team. J-Rod's injury is looking like a blessing in disguise, as he currently off-the-radar, and we're going to need a proven striker next season.
Hope thats true. The Board can easily block any player offers but if Adam or Luke have decided their future lies elsewhere lets take the cash and rebuild. You could do a hell of a lot with around £70m As long as we do it better than Spurs. No players are bigger than the club.
I'm sure Poch see himself as having given not a **** at all about what others think and not understanding what the fuss is about. After all it is pretty normal in the world of Football. What people say should never be believed because they all find it so easy to utter something that they have no intention of sticking to. i.e. Lallana 'I would love to stay at Saints till I retire if they want me' translates to 'I'm off if a better offer comes along' Pochettino 'I have a year left of my contract, what's the worry' translates to '**** your 1 year unless the Spurs don't offer me the job' Rickie 'I owe it all to Saints, I am living the dream' translates to 'I owe it all to Saints, I am living the dream'
That's how badly he wanted to leave. He'd pay £2m for his freedom. What really keeps biting at me is that I am convinced that we would have won the FA Cup had he taken it seriously. I can't see a softer route every coming along again; and had he won it, he might think twice about leaving. He'd also have at least capped this five year period with a very nice piece of silverware, and should we get asset-stripped, lose key players, or just become a bit dull in our consolidation phase, we could always look back at this particular team as an FA Cup-winning one, and ultimately that could satisfactorily be seen as an end to one period and the beginning of a next, hopefully even more illustrious, phase, ending in five years with a league title. We can hope, but has a poetry about it. His legacy would certainly be in better shape.
I think it's no surprise Rickie is the fan's favourite. He loves the club and he lets us know it. While time isn't on his side (which effectively rules the possibility out anyway), you know he wouldn't just turn around and leave us like others (Poch and probably Adam).
there's our lesson I suppose. you can't get sincerity from anyone who can potentially do better than the club I always feared adkins would be snapped up by Liverpool in the long run. It turned out we were closer to his level (or ahead of him) all along and he would probably have been content. (I read all his statements which left room for him leaving as his ambition as well, rather than the sacking he knew would come)
As someone else mentioned, i'd love it if the club just shut up shop now. Let the players wait until they've seen what the new manager is doing before allowing them any opportunity to leave.
just watching the RK ssn interview on the youtubes. if anyone can make this better it's kirsty gallagher doing the intro.
Up her mums at Stratford upon avon tomorrow .....that should see me enough brownie points with the World Cup not to be nagged (wishful thinking)
