i heard they were defensively solid until they were struck by injuries. not sure if that coincided with their game against us.

edit: nah looks like they had only one player out for most of their disasters.

Have to agree with this and the club is in a much stronger position that it was 18 months ago. Already the names on the shortlists have much stronger CVs than Pochettino had.

Sadly the volatility of the managers job at the top of the game across Europe makes the days of a long term manager over for a club the size of Southampton. Like it or not Cortese was correct when he said the 1st team coach/manager is just a head of department.
The long term vision of a football club no longer comes from an all powerful manager but by the directors.

Very bad news. I hoped until the last minute that Pochettino will stay. He was great for us, we played some wonderful football.

Some of you think he'll be sacked by Levy in his first year, but i don't see that. He's a great manager and exactly what Tottenham need.

I don't blame him for leaving. Cortese sold him a vision, and after he was gone, it was up to the new board to sell him a new vision. They failed.

Grateful to Pochettino for realising so much potential in our team, showing us that we can compete at the top. Without his appointment and tactics applied I doubt we'd all feel as ambitious. Thoroughly enjoyed the football played under him this past year and a half, and wish him luck with Spurs.

Is Wenger still hanging out at Staplewood?
He always liked our up and coming players.

    Just saying...

We gave him his break in English football, and he ditches us after only one year for the first offer that comes along.

A few things I've been thinking about. Firstly, think that it could be a very exciting season IF we keep Lallana and most key players as well as bringing in someone like Yakin. Secondly, don't want to get too excited at the prospect of someone like Yakin only to be left disappointed with someone like McClaren. And lastly, keep thinking Poch left because the board failed to make promises about keeping key players. They did offer him a new deal after all.

I agree with most of this post, apart from the last bit. I don't know if we can blame the board as we don't know what was said. He more I think about this, the more I wonder how much he made up his mind when Cortese went. I wonder how much of a part Cortese played in his move even.

IF as looks likely to me, Lallana leaves and maybe Shaw too at their insistence (let's not debate here the board turning offers down and accept that neither player yet has said I want to stay at saints it's all rumour) then what could the board do. I am grateful for what MP has given us but I am beginning to think he has had this in his mind for a few months.

How do you know it was the first offer? He showed ambition and went to another club because the vision and person he was brought here by changed, in his view for the worse.

You can spin it both ways.

Always. But why are you so keen to see things his way? You seem as intent on exonerating him as others are on damning him. Why?

Because I don't see him having done anything particularly wrong in the real world.

Fair enough. And on balance you're probably right. Particularly given the values of the real world of which you speak.

But there again, on the other hand, all things considered...**** him.

i'm sure poch sees himself as having acted entirely professionally.

he saw out the end of the season without openly inviting offers, for all we know he paid up his £2m before opening negotiations with tottenham.

telling the media and fans that he has one year on his contract etc was unfortunately a very misleading statement but arguably that's professional in football.

The thing is, the parameters of his contract changed. Now he may well have been oversold those parameters in the first place, but it wasn't HIM that changed them.

We're as well saying thank you for not buggering off in January and precipitating a major meltdown, as we are saying "**** him" now. I do obviously understand that sentiment too, but I certainly won't be booing or leading a chorus of "Judas" when he returns.

Blimey, this getting a year older lark has got me all sensible....!

I won't be shouting "Judas", I hope no one does.

But I certainly won't be warmly applauding the Judas c**t.
