I've asked before but perhaps I should ask again. Would this forum benefit from a Hamilton thread to stop every imaginable topic turning into Hamilton. Now I know some of you would defend him if he ran over your grandmother on purpose, and I equally know there are some of you who hate him so much you can't last more than two posts without bringing him up. Maybe the rest of the forum would be nicer, friendlier and more logical if those special few had a little corner to go to where they could have the same argument we had 7 years ago Am I the only one not bothering to read what some say? I've heard it all before and can predict it all since the same people say the same thing day after day, regardless of how relevant it is
Hamilton started it, he goes on about it in his bbc column, so save the sanctimonious whining for another time.
Well by social standards worldwide Lewis isn't technically "black" as he has a white mother so he is "mixed race" by definition in my book. To be "Black" you have to have parents who are both "black", tiger woods is also mixed race but still plays "that" card so he can relate to people more, that's business for you though.
To be fair, it's one of those "Lewis Hamilton was talking to Andrew Benson" columns, in which Benson no doubt asks questions, and then writes an almost coherent piece based upon the answers. I doubt he has much input into the line of questioning. BLS, I think a "Hamilton Megathread" might become a little overwhelming and bitter, but it might make more sense for events that are going to lead to the inevitable debates having separate threads, so when they degenerate into Hamilton moaning/defending, it doesn't take over the race threads. Predicting those occurrences, and/or shifting posts over later, might not be the easiest though!
Im glad I saved you the bother by diffusing the situation with my clarification on it not being a personal attack on Eddie. I never claimed to have the answer, but it seems everyone else does - I merely pointed out that we all seem to have lots of knowledge on things that we blatantly don't understand - me included. I asked a question, nothing more. Unfortunately it is a horrible topic, and ignorance sits on both sides I'm afraid. I have tried to be constructive and defuse a lot of the extremes, from hatred to blind faith. I think there are many comments on here (some which are offensive) that you should perhaps choose to respond to rather than mine. Maybe I am deluded, but I am shocked that you feel that his presence in F1 is a shift in politics and something to be celebrated. I see him as a racing driver there on merit, I don't see him as a black driver, the same as I don't see Jenson as a white driver, or Koby as an Asian driver etc. It could be argued that his signing as a youngster was a "political" move and hence was positive discrimination - something that could be exploited further when he became successful. Maybe this is what Lewis means when he mentions it, either lead by an interviewer (probable) or off his own back? I don't know, but either do you, Eddie or anybody else in here. The fact is, that if he hadn't mentioned it last weekend (ironically the anniversary of his previous outburst) we wouldn't be discussing it. You are obviously an intelligent individual (which you have highlighted to the forum) and I would have thought that had you read all the posts and seen my selected response you would have ascertained what I was trying to achieve - or more appropriately stop. Anyway, I respect your points and will not comment further, but a history lesson I neither care for or need.
I don't get it, the major talking point regarding the last race was his antics in response to what Rosberg did. It's almost like he so regularly does something negative that people are just supposed to not mention it anymore same with the "he wears his heart on his sleeve" kind of comments i keep hearing. What does that even mean? that he's so prone to being unable to control what he says and does that it's just supposed to be acceptable now? I guess i'll have to remember that next time i want impunity whilst behaving in a completely unnecessary manner
Apologies to our moderator BLS, who no doubt tendered his suggestion (above) with the best intent. However, I feel I have to disagree. (Please bear in mind that this is not designed to be harsh or personal; it is simply an expression of one member's opinion). Recent events in F1 have focussed attention upon two of its drivers, and since they are by far the most likely candidates for the 2014 World Drivers' Championship, this is entirely natural. Indeed, it is probably healthy for any platform for debate. A separate column has been suggested for one driver, no doubt with good intent; but surely â and however well intended such thoughts may be â such focus over one protagonist is likely to exacerbate whatever difficulty may exist since it focusses even more attention in that direction? The most likely outcome is an even greater polarisation of opinion. Besides, even though some name(s) will crop up more frequently than others, surely any F1 driver 'qualifies' to be included â as an equalâ in any F1 debate? Please do not have a dedicated thread to debate, sideline, promote, or in any other way (intended or otherwise) distinguish one particular driver. At least when such discussion occurs at present, it happens naturally â as is normal with any high profile candidate(s) for a world championship â rather than being forced into some backwater or promoted as a topic presupposing a warrant for 'special' debate. Besides, no attempt to segregate or distinguish what should go where can hope to quell whatever disquiet may already exist. Such dedication, however well intended, can only highlight a problem rather than hope to dispel or remove it from the mainstream, no matter how boring some may find it. Furthermore, it might be perceived as separatist and perhaps lead to alienation and/or polarisation of membership. Other people, for instance, may feel 'their' driver also justifies a separate thread⦠In my opinion any attempt to segregate one driver from the hubbub of general debate is fundamentally wrong and prejudicial in the most basic sense, however well intendedâ¦
I applaud what you're trying to do. I'd like to offer a variation... For me, the actual problem is the sh*t slinging, whatever causes it. So could there be a "Monkeys slinging sh*t" thread? People could take their arguments & rants in there, and the rest of the forum could go about its intelligent, respectful business. My thinking is... On this forum I've seen plenty of thoughtful, rational, balanced and insightful posts (and discussions) about Hamilton. They do happen, and I'd hate to see those banished to an abuse-filled backwater just because they're about Hammy. Also, by creating a thread specifically for Hamilton arguments, you might end up with arguments about whether a post is of a sufficient 'standard' to stay in the normal forum. Better to have a place where all abuse can go, including the stuff that that's nothing to do with Hammy! (The best thing of all would be for people to stay respectful. But for some reason Hamilton seems to polarise opinions, and then the people with those opinions antagonise each other into a rage.)
People are welcome to talk about, applaud or berate who they want. Its just a shame that regardless of the topic if you leave a thread long enough it'll become about Hamilton. I chose to make my suggestion in this thread since it's already purely about Hamilton, as will I'm sure the Canada race thread soon enough. Maybe what is required is some sort of betting league to see how long a thread can last before it becomes about Hamilton Its a fair point, but I feel something must be done. If I think back to the last few days all I can see on this forum is childish whining about Hamilton over and over. All the interesting and thoughtful comments get lost in the mountain that is 6 year olds on a playground. You always write in green with is useful as I know your comments are always mature and worth reading Cosi, but for others who stand out less, they may get missed when people try and skim past page 20 of 'my first moaning book'. Basically, what ^ he said
The debate on the rights and wrongs of the Rosberg/Hamilton quali situation and then Hamilton's behavior after the race was being well discussed, objectively and maturely on race day itself and immediately afterwards. It seems some users cannot accept that there was no mud-slinging happening, so decided to come in and just hurl insults and make up stuff purely to antagonise and disrupt what was going on, because everyone seemed to be of the general same opinion about the weekends events, which is highly unusual considering the drivers involved. Maybe some people are just attention seeking, as they certainly only seem to come out with rubbish as and when it suits them and rarely get involved in a general debate?
Disgusted by this. Who are you to say how he should define himself. Surely if he feels more in tune with the black side of his family let him do so, mix raced people are often frowned upon by both black and white sides of societies, less so now but more so in the mid 80's, so he has had no choice but to define and call himself 'black'.
This is pretty much what any Hamilton discussion will descend in to even if everyone is mostly in agreement, and I don't see that changing until people are able to act in a measured manner when it comes to discussing him. And sadly, on that day, Satan will be skiing to work.
I think we should start a race "race" thread. Where we state our races, and our parents races, whilst watching the race.
again, you say that like talking about him is somehow not related to F1 is he not a driver? does he not regularly make the headlines for his on and off track...well anything he does? should he stop doing that kind of thing, or just the people who mention it? Seems to me more like people just want to enjoy eulogising him where they please then have any vaguely negative comments (or anything else they don't like) hidden away in some other topic, no doubt untitled something to suggest it contains no valid opinions or even justifiable criticisms for him regularly resorting to behaviour other drivers seem to manage not to. Also there are plenty of topics where he goes unmentioned
almost had me going there for a second I'm off out anyway so the nightly game of Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V will have to continue in my absence, and as I stated above "People are welcome to talk about, applaud or berate who they want."
