Our style? Conceding lots of goals?

Part of the reason we did was because we don't have anyone capable of sitting infront of the back 4 and breaking up play and helping bring our defence up.

Gerrard is very good at what he does and against teams that we dominate we can afford not to have a DM who will sit there and do the dirty part but in some certain games we'd need that. Having a DM that is experienced enough will also help drag the defence up a notch rather than letting them drop further and further back.

He still had a decent season and played a prominent role for them.

Highly Doubt we'd get 8million for Reina.
probably raise around 10million from selling Reina and Assaidi.
Another 8million one of Agger or Skertl.

Kelly and Coates would raise another 8 million.
If Sunderland bid 8-10million on Borini, think he'd be off aswell.

I'd want Lucas out as well, but I think we'd have a hard time finding a suitor.

We could still raise about 35million from player sales alone.

Rodgers believes a lot on resting on the ball, defending with the ball and playing out from the back. Master this and it is brilliant. Rodgers will focus on this and long term thinking is right to do so.

Our main issues are crosses, corners and communication.

Or maybe he sees that we have no reliable defensive midfielder who can control a game since Lucas seems to have regressed and this is the reason Gerrard is playing there. If we had a Martinez, Fernandinho, Busquetes in the team for example I'm pretty sure they would be playing in that defensive midfield role.

We might not need someone like that for every game, but Gerrard isn't getting any younger and in some games we need that solid midfielder to sit onfront of the back 4, break up play and then move the ball on.

    Marco Reus?

"One day I would like to play there [the Premier League]. Liverpool are a massive club and I am glad they are back in the Champions League, one day I may leave [Borussia Dortmund] and if I do Liverpool would be good for me."

Sakho captaining France against Norway, Ahead of players like Koscielny and Cabaye. Shows he's pretty highly rated in his home country.
He's had a solid game so far.

Remy came on in the 2nd half and scored almost instantly. Valbuena is another player we could look at. Im surprised he's still not snatched by any of the better European sides.
He's one of those players long due a move abroad, but still stuck in a mickey mouse league.

Think we were linked with him last time we were in the CL but he must be getting on about now and close to 30? Probably missed the chance to move to a bigger club elsewhere.

    So on defense

Let's be fair...... Playing at home in a 41212 we effectively play 3 at the back and 7 attackers. We are deliberately exposed and rely on a lot of stamina and athletism to get back at full back and cm. this is the issue

There are a few tactics to employ to improve things, you'd like to think that after 20 mins of killing a side we could just see Rodgers stand up wiggle his hands and the team just switches tack.... Or at 3-1 v palace we can do it too

For instance the more usual version in Italy is the double pivot where the Gerrard role is balanced by the destroyer or dm you all love and I can't abide. It's be nice to think Henderson could do it. A great example is bayern LAST year where Martinez could flip in the middle of a game and just boss it.

Or indeed you could see Johnson fn realise that there's a time and to sit.... And not trot back

The improvement we need, in my opinion is not to include a negative player but add more powerful running at full back and cm. with respect to Lucas and Allen or even coutinho they just are not up to my type of game

I don't buy this cb issue, how many set pieces did we throw in? Not many.... We improved over the course if the year but I think it's all about pace and power, that's why I'm looking at wisdom in preseason and want a real cb capable of masses of running to complement Henderson

When we have that AND more attacking options I feel we can compete for silverware

But I don't see a cb as being needed yet, solve the transition between defense and attack and show some sense at times is what we need
