Rather than retype it I have copied below a message from Mick so you know whats going on and what we are doing.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    The Not 606 News Team
I am paying a guy with the extra revenue generated from advertising to guests to seed the content 'Article' sections. (When I say extra revenue from advertising, I'm making up about 40% of the guy's wage from my own pocket with the hope of maintaining growth and eventually making the money back through further advertising)

At the minute I've told him not to worry about getting breaking news, or about producing quality articles - just to get the News sections filled up with a history of news as fast as possible so I can submit our site to Newsnow and Google News - and we look as if we are producing enough content for them to force their developers to put the time and effort into spidering our news stories. Once we are accepted on these news aggregation sites I will instruct him to up the quality.

So please get our users to stop lambasting him every time he posts something that's been known for more than two hours, it will look bad whenever the Google or Newsnow guys come to judge the quality of the site and see loads of people telling the authors to **** off.

In terms of the plans when we are on Newsnow and Google News. I am going to put a button on the forum saying 'Report Breaking News' which will allow you or anyone else to send the News Team whatever News is breaking so they can do a quick write up and be one of the first to market on these news aggregation sites.

At this point I want the moderators to merge the existing Threads on the subject with the newly created 'official' Not606 News Story. This way when we get the thousands of people clicking from Google News and News Now on the latest Sunderland scandal they will see the discussion taking place below the article and sign up to join in.

    It's crazy enough to work.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dont take the Sunderland bit to heart.

The flow of the discussions will get all jumbled up if we start merging the threads together won't they Syd?

That's my arse smacked then. :p

Why not make him a News "Editor", he could then accept submissions from the different boards.
Proof read, edit as necessary and repost as NOT606 News. <ok>

If we merge the news team article into an existing thread it will only be one post in the middle, and all comments in that thread will appear below the article which is published elsewhere.

I realise it's untidy and it's distracting from the core forum which is what we are all here to use. But the whole point of putting the news stories in the forums is so that the replies in the forums appear below the news stories in the news section, for instance the comment below this story http://www.not606.com/content.php/552-New-Chelsea-boss-ready-to-axe-stars was written by SherrifJWPepper who was browsing the Chelsea forum. I am hoping some other Chelsea bloke who's never heard of us clicks on the link from Newsnow, see's SherrifJWPepper's comment and signs up to disagree with him.

If we keep all the news to one thread then the various user comments won't appear below the articles in the news section.

So how do you make sure that their thread remains as the main one when you merge several thread?

You keep their's as the main one, when given the option on the merge threads, but sometimes they still get mumbled up. Does it go on a time posted, even though they have the thread heading.

I would make it clear any off topic posts will be removed by the mods then.
Can't see anyone complaining about that happening, when it is on a specific "News" thread.
And yes I know I'm an offender of going off topic. <ok>

Will it not stop people from posting new threads when they think they have the latest news, knowing that it will just be merged in with the news teams main thread
