It would appear that Spurs value Livermore in the c£8m bracket, and whilst I feel he has been a great asset for us last season, personally at c£8m I would walk away from any permanent deal at around that figure. For me c£4m yes, but not much more. What do you value Jake at out of interest?
Not 8M, as good as he's been there is no way we could justify that much on a CM. Going to be tough to replace next season ...... wonder if Frank fancies an FA cup run and 35k a week next year......
Spurs basically think we're desperate for him and are trying it on. I'd go £6m max and be prepared to tough it out to the deadline. The problem is that will mean we play a month without him...
IMO, we could get 2/3 Spurs players as a package. £8m is not that bad for Livermore if we get others as FAT's.
Actually Spurs are desperate to reduce there over sized squad. If we take a couple of others off there hands Levy wont be as bad to deal with. Plus we did get Hudds cheaper than we should have done.
I think he'd be a big miss, and his mate might, shall we say, look more closely at any offers from southern clubs. £8m is overpriced, but we a have settled midfield pairing in there now. The bigger picture ?
Agreed, but another way to look at this summers window and what we spend is who else we get in and how much they cost. When you look at the PL money an extra £2m (£6m-£8m) is nowt these days.
its early days, Jake has already stated he want to come back on a permanent transfer, spurs are using this to try and screw us,they know and we know,he's not worth 8million,i think we will get him for around 4million,to be fair prior to coming to us, he was a squad player at the most and on loan the rest of it.
Yes. £12m would be better though. I also think that Pocchitino will maybe want to take 2 or 3 Saints players with him so Spurs will need to trade quickly.
Cant let any other team hold us over a barrel. I wouldnt pay more than £5m for Livermore as there's simply better foreign players available for that kind of money. Obviously he's more expensive because he's English but we already have many British players in our team and it wouldnt be the end of the world if we miss out on Jake if we're able to bring in someone as good if not better from Europe.
I think having a British spine with good team morale has been essential to our safety. I reckon around the £6m region seems fair, given his age, fitness, influence on our games. £8m feels a bit of a rip-off but sometimes its better to stick with what you know, we may splash out on a non-PL player and find he just doesn't suit the PL/our side. I think as BCC pointed out, Spurs know this and hence the higher asking price, Levy is savvy.
Put in a bid for him, if they don't accept it then move on. I'm sure Brucie will have a back up plan.
Pocchitino now confirmed as Spurs new manager on a 5 year contract along with ALL his backroom staff from Saints. Expect a further raiding party on Southampton for players. Maybe Clyne - Lovren will be targets ??
I guess now a lot will depend on Pocchitino he will probably want to see all the squad in training before he decides who he will keep and who will be let go. This could be a long drawn out job, I hope not as we need players up and running for the Europe journey.
I'm going stick my neck out,and suggest we pay up to £7m for Jake,as i said earlier,we have as good a midfield partnership as we could dream of, and i'm worried Thud might might want out,if Livermore goes.
